A £30-40m player from the continent at that age is probably still ‘only’ around £70-80k. A proven quality player at those fees you’re probably looking 2 or 3x that? Even if they’re only here 2 years you’re probably looking an extra £6-10m on wages. Ashley wouldn’t do that. Great point. Lower salaries for these younger players is another big attraction for MA. Also, even if they don't get sold on for some big fee and they stay at the club, MA probably thinks they are worth the price paid as we hold onto them for goodness knows how many years. I haven't seen enough of Lookman but his stats don't compare to Bowens especially with Bruces links to Bowen from their time at Hull.. I find it hard to believe that anyone thought Soumare would come here, and find the price surprisingly low, tbh. He is quite young, bigger clubs are after him, and Lille have European goals to fight for the rest of the season. I do not think they would sell one of their young talents in the January window and doubt that the player would want to make this middling move now when better options will be there in the summer.
