Lemina is properly awful. He’s been a liability most games I’ve seen him play in and he’s had some really poor games v us. The one up here when he was at Southampton under Hughes (I think) sticks out.

We’re really poor in midfield and we’re trying to sign someone who won’t improve that. This season is going to be horrendous.

We’re in real relegation danger unless we get a superstar signing like Willock who carries the team on his own. Either that or Wilson stays fit all year and fires 15+ goals.

Lemina in and Hayden out is basically net zero.

Willock, Lemina and Gallagher would improve us immeasurably.

Willock would mean standing still, Lemina - jury's out, not seen the Gallagher link. That the WBA lad?

Yeah signing Willock improves us but only puts us back on par with last season.

Is Lemina better than Hendrick? Thats the question.

On par with the last few months of the season is at least a step in the right direction.

I don't think anyone could be worse that Hendrick.

Well of course he is. Everyone is.

What sort of player is Lemina? I can't say I've noticed him particularly in the past, my gut says he's one of those like Shelvey who doesn't get involved much.

Can picture Bruce introducing him as our next signing with something like " he can pick a pass, so our fans will enjoy watching him".

He clearly hasn't lived up to his supposed potential but my boy had some videos of him on YouTube (I know) last night & he looked decent in the clips from 3 or 4 of his clubs, albeit none of which were from his time at Fulham. Box 2 box, quite skillful, can tackle, pass, shoot, looked quite quick. Fook knows what's happened to him to drop off so much ?

He seems fairly busy, no specific specialism but runs around forward and back. Have seen him make a fair few errors and lose the ball for Fulham, IIRC.

I feel like he'd struggle to be actively worse.

Disagree that signing Willock means we'd be standing still tbh. We only signed him in January last season and this time round he's not going to need a great deal of time to settle in.

Then again, is it likely he’ll perform as well and get as many goals as last time? It’s a big ask.

My uneducated opinion is that he realised his job was to do absolutely anything it took to save Newcastle from relegation - run anywhere, play anywhere, just get goals. Pretty difficult brief second time around.

But like you say, having him for a full season is probably better.

I’d be happy to have him, but I honestly hate how much we rely on loans from “larger” clubs to fill out our roster every year. Like a beaten dog mewling for table scraps. It’s pathetically small-time and a further indictment of our transfer policy and upper-level management.

Yep, absolutely awful. Same with Gallagher, although I think he’s also class.

If the club can’t be sold than Ashley has to invest in it. But of course he won’t.

He's described as a tenacious box to box midfielder on his wiki page for what that's worth, those are definitely qualities we are missing. Although obviously it's not much use if he's useless when he's actually got the ball. Also seems his contract is up next year and that would be why we're in for him.
