When we were signing Kenedy there lots of people on here saying 'we've already got Ritchie, Atsu, Aarons and Murphy, why do we need another winger?'. Then Kenedy came in and transformed us almost singlehandedly. It seems that Rafa doesn't think Atsu is good enough, Aarons isn't his cup of tea and Murphy still has a way to go. For 3 more years. christ Conspiracy theory time...signing these players to daft contract lengths serves a dual purpose. Outside of the potential resale and inflated sell on fee from a contract remainder they also serve a purpose in that if they don't work out, they clog up the wage bill and give Ashley a ready made excuse as to why we don't sign more players...too much dead wood, too big a squad, we already have players in that position...etc. It also gives the manager an unnecessary headache pimping out this pile of dross we constantly accumulate.
