Away Toon
Check out Holding's goal in the friendly against MK Dons. Obviously a top player and you know we love defenders who can score.
TRon
Bruce is an old fashioned British manager, tbh it makes perfect sense for him to be wanting British/Irish players to make up his squad. Fish and chips on the bus home, then a pie and pint in the Pig and Whistle afterwards. Will be good for team bonding.
Shearergol
Holding has the potential to easily become Newcastle’s best defender, but what’s the point on loaning him?

Toon No9
No point for a loan of Holding if there's not an option to buy! Good defender and if we could sell Lejuene(injury prone) and Schar(not suited in a back 4) for decent money we could reinvest that in the striker department. Would love to see: Marega Brewster(loan, option to buy) Willems(loan, sign on a free when contract ends) Harry Wilson(loan, option to buy)

I get that. Why do we want to loan? To sell our best defenders and survive with loanees?

Absolute Elsewhere
£££££, following the Sunderland model. Yep. This pre season and the state of our squad now reminds me of the one Sunderland had before they got relegated. Stocking up an already shit squad with random frees and loans. Both got an old school pfm too

It’s an utter disgrace. If we are acting like tramps we could at least get some exciting young players in on loan but we don’t even do that
KaKa
Holding has the potential to easily become Newcastle’s best defender, but what’s the point on loaning him? Arsenal don't want to sell. Don't think that's the case as they have William Saliba returning from his loan at Saint-Etienne and Gabriel Magalhães set to join from Lille. In addition they have Luiz, Sokratis, Mari, Chambers and Mustafi still. We're likely just being cheap, and don't want to get locked in to any agreement until next summer. Schar and Clark are going into their last years and so paying a fee for a centre back likely makes more sense then.
Dr Jinx
That we’re being linked with so many defenders suggests that they’re going to cash in on someone, I’d say Lejeune might be one who Bruce isn’t a fan of, Schär too maybe but he’s only got himself to blame there, rubbish in the last few games. Not sure being frozen out then thrown into the midfield helped. One of those two makes most sense. Still the least problematic area of our team to be buying players. Paully
The deal has been mentioned twice on BT Sports so must be a formality so at least one CH must be away and no doubt it’ll be one of those fancy ball-playing foreigners!
AyeDubbleYoo
Not that I can be bothered to ask this question really, but why are we in for CBs? We’ve got loads.

St1pe
Why are we signing a cb on loan when it’s arguably our strongest part of the squad?
TheInfiniteOdyssey
Why are we signing a cb on loan when it’s arguably our strongest part of the squad? Probably because the club will sell one / both of Schär and Lejeune, so Ashley can pocket all the cash by just loaning in a replacement

nufcjmc
Why are we signing a cb on loan when it’s arguably our strongest part of the squad? Either its Option 1 : Bruce and his team have expertly analysed all of the games last year identifying failings and who would work in a certain brand new more attacking system he kept bleating on about when we didn't win. Option 2: the club as usual think we are all totally stupid and as long as we can say how many new players came in to make us "stronger" it doesnt matter which position they play at. Option 3: an agent friend of the club and needs a new pool like gordan Ramseys got and like the submissive gits we are we are more than happy to help out.
