Looking in to some of the singings, it appears we're taking players who have experience in this league and the league above. Amber Keegan Stobbs has played in the Championship for the past 5 years, for example. Hannah Greenwood played for Durham. Looks like we're adding quality and experience.

Might have to get myself to Kingston park this season coming.

So we poached the head coach of the team that won the division we just got promoted into?? I think? My brain can't compete the different divisions. Seems like a solid addition.

(Edit) More about him and last season here: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-12104727/Andy-Cooks-Nottingham-Forest-Womens-dreaming-Championship-ahead-play-final.html

Spoilers: they ultimately failed at the last hurdle in the last iteration of the playoffs to get promoted. Thankfully we won't have to go through that if we finish first but we do have to finish first to go up!

Just the 9 goals for the lasses so far today ?

Friendly v Chester Le Street (who were in the 5th tier last season and got promoted into the 4th tier)

Newcastle were 4th tier last year and now in the 3rd tier (hoping to challenge the top teams in this division get into the championship )

This was a late pre arranged friendly as Leeds dropped out

Chester Le street were extremely poor and it could of been 14/15

Mis-Match

What was the mackem

match like? Of course some of the mackems off SMB are saying we were outclassed, but looking at twitter it seemed to be a pretty even game until the sending off.

Tight game , Sunderland probably deserved to win to be fair but the gap is closing.

Sunderland have a hybrid model (so half professional/ half not) and have been playing at the championship for 3/4 years

Newcastle only started officially as professional on august 1st and still adding staff on and getting used to the day to day challenges of being professional.

In 1 year there won’t be any difference between the two in terms of standard.

It will be nip n tuck this year for Newcastle in the league as all the team need to gel.

Newcastle have a decent start though and could get off to a flyer !

Doesn't seem like grounds for postponement. If the club have offered to move the scheduled KO and provide a private room (plus food & drink) to watch the game then this is just Halifax just deciding to not turn up.

Plus, according to the Halifax statement the league allowed games to be postponed if both teams agreed. Clearly that hasn't happened in this case.

Was about to post the exact same thing.  Surely then it's an automatic win for Newcastle Women then?  We didn't agree so it's not a postponement! Halifax should forfeit the game.

I kind of get where Halifax are coming from, it's a world cup final and they don't want to watch it in some random room at Kingston Park and then have to go and play their first game of the season!

I think we should have just agreed to postpone the game, but sounds like it's all getting a bit political. All the clubs already hate us because we're -throwing money' around!!!

The whole thing could have been avoided of the FA had just not picked this day as the start of the season in the first place!

Just saw in the 'Southern Premier Division' which is the 3rd tier regional equivalent of the league Newcastle and Halifax are in, all 6 matches were played today, including Plymouth vs Billericay at 2.45pm (more than a 4 hour drive to Newton Abbott, Devon), Cardiff vs Ipswich (well over 4 hours), and Rugby vs London Bees (2 hours).

I originally naturally thought all matches were off at that level and it was just Newcastle pushing it because they are the only full time side in the 3rd tier, but since the other 11 fixtures could go ahead as planned, then this looks even worse on Halifax.

The other 5 fixtures in Newcastle's league were reasonably close geographically.

The league stated that a game could be postponed if both clubs agreed to it. We went out of our way to try and enable the Halifax team to watch the final, in comfort and with food provided. They refused and insisted that they were not playing the game. As c we did not agree to this and by the published league guidelines, then the game has to be declared a walkover surely and the 3 points awarded to Newcastle
