Kieran Trippier: has a chance to play against Everton (Howe)

Recommended Posts

thought his set pieces apart from a couple were absolutely fine or good, even. Burn missed another really easy chance.

Ultimately we have the highest xG from set pieces in the league iirc. Underperforming on that means our delivery is good overall and the lads attacking them should be putting more away.

More generally I thought he was back to his best today after some sloppy performances since the WC.

His first time touch is unreal.. every single time it's just like... Boom, under control. Never any worries.

Yeah, some of those immediate control takes are incredible.  The ball gets pinged, floated, drilled at him and it seems to make no difference.

His dead balls are becoming annoying, but his all-round game is superb.

His indirect set pieces are fucking crap.

Love the effort and commitment and he's absolutely captain material all day long - but not having a secondary option on free kicks and corners is hurting us every single game at the minute.

Thanks for the graft today Tripps but please learn to not hit the keeper every sodding time when you're crossing from a dead ball.

His control and first touch are superb, and the vision for the pass forward are amazing. His near post and far post corners though, they never work. the training ground pieces with Miggy, they work most of the time, stick with them or have someone else take the corners

Litteraly put a class ball in for Burn who hit the bar last week and annother for Burn in first half he missed.

Both corners...

Aye. The way he whips them, you're gonna see a lot of them go straight to the keeper, particularly the in-swingers. There's at least one a game lately that is postage-stamped though, but Schar and obviously Burn in particular are terrible at attacking and directing the ball, they mistime their jump or close their eyes frequently.

Indirect free kicks are a bit more of a problem, we don't know how to break a high defensive line.

It isn't a controversial take at this point, like. Absolutely horrendous.

Brilliant everywhere else but aye, some kind of switch has been flicked to 'off' since Christmas.

Needs to be taken off set pieces permanently. He's shit at them. Can't even remember the last time he took a shot in a decent free kick position.

This is just a ridiculous statement.

Not ridiculous like, he’s great at set pieces but in the last fifteen games or so he’s been really poor on them. It’s not just that we haven’t scored from them, we haven’t looked like scoring from them. Take a look at the delivery today for Man U’s first, haven’t seen a set piece effort from Trippier like that for ages. He just needs a bit of a rest

I hate the floated free kicks we do. rather just play it short

Wanting an alternative to take free kicks makes total sense, but calling him shit at them and permanently removing him is ridiculous hyperbole and definitely controversial. There's something deeper wrong with our set plays than the deliveries at the moment.
