junkhead
https://fbref.com/tiny/j4rSQ Here's a comparison with Aguerd, Kimpembe and Badiashile - similar (top) ball playing defenders from Ligue 1 - plus Schar and Burn for the last two seasons. Of course it's not a very valid comparison with our CBs as it's a different league.. Botman seems an aggressive "fighter" CB who excels in duels - he's leading the tackling, heading and blocking stats but also has very decent passing and ball carrying stats. He's not as elegant on the eye as the other 3 players, but he seems remarkably composed with the ball at his feet for his physique.. and age - at 22 years, £30 million seems like a decent deal for a player of that calibre. To think they had the likes of Panucci and Galli as back-ups in the side that won the 1994 European Cup - Jesus wept. I can’t separate them from Barcelona’s late ‘00s-early ‘10s side as the greatest club teams in history. Incredible side. Always loved Savicevic in that 94 team. They ran Barcelona ragged in the EC Final. Hard to believe thinking back that a bit earlier they also had Rikaard, Gullit and Van Basten as well. Christ almighty. Coffee_Johnny
Canny (an alternative understated appreciation!). Loved the number of right footed tackles shown and the through balls. Not sure about the long passes being a weakness; doubt comes not from the clips but from the comparisons with Schar’s stats earlier.
Happinesstan
Any lack of pace is more than compensated for by the time it takes to get around him. He's 6'5" and still looks huge. Edited June 24, 2022 by Happinesstan
