Really like this bloke. He's everything we wanted him to be and more - reads the game well, composed on the ball, good passer and already looks like he has the physical attributes to go far. All that at the age of 22!

And all for the same price we flogged Andy Carroll for 11 years ago.

Botman - Virgil - De Ligt at the WC for me.

Cant instantly recall a tidier, classier three at the back.

Come a long way since the omni-shambles of Koeman and Van Gobbel

I don’t know how or why they’d drop De Vrij, Ake or Timber in any of those positions next to Virgil….the 3 I listed would literally destroy any attacker in front of them.

I've never been persuaded by Ake. Don't know enough about the other two.

I know it upset many at the time, but that was one of the few sales where I'd have been like Ashley - bundling him into the helicopter and taking Dalglish's stupid offer.  Carroll always looked like a 'purple patch' player to me.  Difference is I would have reinvested it.

Oh, and Botman is a bargain at 35m - what a player.

From centre backs, only Ake ahead of Botman on xThreat from passes (basically how dangerous their passes are), and Man City players are always at an advantage from how much possession they have. Amazing.

Trippier

How can you be in negative numbers? What does that represent, giving the ball away which creates an opposition chance?

More or less, aye. Creating more danger for your own team or moving towards your own goal.

I would expect it just means performing actions that reduce your team's xg e.g. receiving the ball with your back to goal, being blocked and playing a pass back to deeper midfield to retain possession. Rather than actively increasing your opposition's chance of a goal.

Such a lovely combo him and Schär. Botman reminds me of Nemanja Vidic, but also much more skillfull with the feet.

Such a rare thing to have the calmness of a tiki taka defence with all four of them. Trippier a masterclass and Burn has Brighton dna all over him.

It’s not just the fact they’re good positionally, good in the air and on set pieces, it’s that they’re both so good with the ball. How many teams in the PL have a player who can drive with the ball like Schar or spray passes like Botman? On top of everything else, just pure class

Always liked Schar, classy defender and I'm glad he's now playing in a good team. Having Botman next to him must be fantastic, having a really solid defender there to rely on allows him to just relax and play his game.

So Redknapp reckons he has the potential to be the Premier League's very best, Darren Bent says he's the second best in the league currently. We've got an absolute steal. Nickson played a blinder.
