It's never just a week with this guy though is it

It’ll be a ‘minor’ injury. He’ll come back looking a bit iffy and then get subbed off again and miss 3 months, is my guess

The fact he was still only ready for 45 mins come the final friendly is a bit worrying. If he stays fit and finds his rhythm, he’ll be pushing to get into the team of the year.

Yeah he’ll make such a difference to our fortunes this season either way I think. BDB is class but only getting older, some rotation there would be great and Sven’s ability to play the pass into midfield or out wide is massive.

It’s mad how good he was in the big games he played last season. Just drives me crackers that he’s always hurt.

We’ve defo got the best pair of LCBs in the league if they’re both fit and available.

It's annoying he had a set back in pre-season, because he really should be at all full speed now and pushing to start first game. Instead, he's going to have wait for a serious league start and potentially be rusty. He doesn't strike me as a player that can just come in and out the side.

Maybe with no striker for the first two games, we see a back 3 for one or both of the games and it something like:

Schar, Botman, Burn

Trippier, Tonali, Bruno, Tino

Elanga, Gordon, Joelinton

Out of possession Joelinton slots into midfield and we have Gordon / Elanga as pace outlets.

I like the approach we have taken with him, after his shuttles he was doing after his 45 against Athleti, I have no fears about his fitness. That would have been to get 90 mins of mileage into his legs and gauge the reaction his body has. That says to me, he's ready to play, but they're making 100% sure we wont have another set back.

If he says fit he'll be in team of the season.
