Think he’s been 7/10 overall since he’s come back from the ACL. Not as good as the other CBs.

Which CB has he been better than since his return?

As a pairing - him and Thiaw are our best.

There’s no way he’s been better than Burn at CB in recent times in terms of all-round game, passing out from the back he’s clear though. There’s very little between him and Fab, but until Botman puts a run of games together or stays fit for any sort of prolonged period there’s no argument between the two.

I’ve said it before, but he’s been available for fewer matches than Woodgate was for us in his time here on average, which is absurd when you think about it.

The beginning of the season he was chasing shadows. Awful he was.

Was brilliant, a while ago. Big 6 months for him, sure his contract ends in 18m as well.

Don’t have any reason to think he’s got worse IMO. He’s been injured, that’s it.

Obviously but availability isn’t the same as quality. He hasn’t done enough, but why is that? Because he’s been injured, simple.

He’s not really been near the levels of his first season aside from a few games, let’s be honest. He gets an insane amount of leeway on here compared to others.

Everyone gets leeway from me, you should know that

It just winds me up how much blame people attach to players who are injured. He’s the same player he was before unless proven otherwise for me, which was absolutely class.

Maybe it’s because people love Burn so much, which is understandable.

I'd argue the same about Schar. I know we can all be guilty of hyperbole  on here, but he had some absolute stinkers last season. Same for Botman this term I guess.

We can’t afford to carry crocks, which is what he is, no matter how good they are on the rare occasions they’re able to play game after game. He won’t be hard to replace with someone more reliable and of similar quality.

Schar’s definitely on the decline, but he’s almost always fit and available. There’s still a strong argument that him and Burn is our best overall partnership based on results, clean sheets, etc. Putting aside individual quality. Thiaw’s obviously been head and shoulders above the others.

I don’t believe that at all given he’s the best CB we’ve signed for years. But obvs if we can, great.

I don’t believe in the concept of a crock really, unless proven over a very long time. I would definitely give him a lot more time given how high his level of quality is.

His contract makes it a bit more tricky though, I admit.

Except since the knee injuries. He has rarely looked like the player he was before. You honestly think he doesn’t look less agile and slower?

He had a career threatening injury and hasn't reached the heights he was at before, then picking up another problematic injury on return. It's more than just he's been injured. He's a long way off his best, we might not even see it due to his contract situation and deciding to cash in the summer.

BTW I hope not. I'd be trying to nail him down now using his injury status as leeway and play on loyalty. Could go either way for us, so we're taking a risk.

I don’t agree. The results and clean sheets would suggest otherwise.

Agree with this.  If everyone was fully fit and we had a cup final tomorow I would personally start Schar and Burn.  It’s certified.  As good as Thiaw has been individually he has not been part of a solid back 5 consistently. With the injuries we have he’ll have the opportunity to prove himself.

Atm I think Schar and Burn have certain leadership, character, determination traits as a partnership that makes them our best pair.

Botman definitely hasn’t been better than Burn. Burn has been a rock for the last 18 months.

We've only kept 2 clean sheets in the league with Thiaw starting.. Bournemouth and Forest away. Against Bournemoth we were playing 5 at the back (Burn, Thiaw, Botman), and vs Forest he was paired with Botman (with Burn at Trippier at fullback). Forest were even worse at the time than what they are now.

Not saying it's Thiaws fault, but our defence hasn't looked rock solid as a unit in a good while.

He looks like his legs aren't working, but to come back from an injury in freezing conditions must not be easy.

Very happy we at least have him and Thiaw to start the next game rather than being desperate.
