Paul Joyce is the source, don’t know if that’s any better.

Not really, he seems to be a nobody from Canada who has posted nothing about football, and indeed hasn't used his twitter acccount since 2022.  The "source" for this one is a dead account from 15 years ago

And the other "stories" seem to be just low-effort made up rubbish

We werent in for him. We were meant to have agreed personal terms before we bid. His agent would have told us roughly that figure. Doesnt make any sense.

If we weren't in for him, then what have we been doing since the Pedro deal collapsed? Elanga was agreed around same time and it's like 3 weeks on and no offeres anywhere else?

I've only been reading the board again since the start of the summer so I won't get too antagonistic for most things as I know fuck all mostly.

But this was a bit too juicy to ignore.

It’s May 2025, the number one priority for the club is keep Isak. What’s your strategy? Pay him more money? That falls apart quite quickly when your competitor can pay more.

No one flew to Frankfurt and you have no idea who we met.

So if they didn't then multiple reports are made up lies.

Tbf they could be, it wouldn't be the first time. But it's far more believable then the idea of never actually in for him and just did it to smoke Liverpool out.

They wanted him badly, but once Liverpool came in they couldn't compete financially and that's okay. We don't have to make fantasy stories to make ourselves feel better.

It is what it is.

Paul Joyce is a journalist for the Times with pretty good connections to the North West.

But aye, having a look, it appears this account has a habit of aggregating nonsense, so could well be made up.

It’s definitely cope if Liverpool sign Isak. If they don’t then you would have to say them signing Ekitike changed that. Then it becomes pure luck and coincidence that our interest in Ekitike kept Isak at the club.

It’s an alternative narrative for the bed wetting ‘we don’t know what we are doing’ crew.

You use this forum and ask whether there are made up lies in the transfer market ?

Don’t debase yourself further. There are lies in the transfer market. There are not lies when you make a club record bid for a player and agree terms with them

We've managed to make the 1st few steps to becoming a real threat. CL twice and a first cup win in an age. Now is not the time to fuck about and take the foot off the gas. Football and football clubs don't stand still if they want to progress. When they do they fall away quickly. We're just so close man. Identify talent and get them in. We have a scouting network that must have done all the donkey work. The club needs to make things happen or it could come back to bite us in the arse.

Reserving my words for someone who is dealing with a horrible diagnosis but it nearly all needs to be at his door.

That said... He himself is liable to be a symptom of the wider PIF corporate culture. If it hadn't been him, it seems likely to have been someone else. I can't say I've got great expectations of whoever his eventual replacement will be.

I’m not going to debate with someone who has no intention to accept reality

I said it was cope if Isak goes. Answer the question though and try and make it make sense.

The failure has been the appointment of Eales and then not replacing him once he was deemed unfit to do the job.

Yep - he’s been a terrible appointment - nothing but sympathy as a human being for him, but as a CEO he’s proven that ‘MLS’ experience is utterly worthless.  Seemed like a bit of a left field appointment at the time - he’s presided over a series of failed windows, been completely uncommunicative (and borderline disastrous when he has communicated), made a poor DoF appointment, to name but a few.

We were absolutely in for him like - it’s patently obvious we were.  Whatever my longstanding misgivings re the lad’s attitude or potential, we bid and got gazumped by a bigger, richer club.

For the sum total of 24 hours wasn’t it? We pulled out on the Monday. Wasn’t very persistent. For it to make sense for me, we were bidding not knowing Liverpool were also interested and then surprised they were, we immediately withdrew.

the theory has holes in it 😁

We bid, it was rejected, we didn’t rebid.  Not seeing the holes - that’s how we normally operate.  Had Liverpool not come in the likelihood is that we’d have fannied on for months with him.

I still think we bid for Ekitike because we want to prepare for next summer if Isak ask to leave the club. I still dont know how he can play together with Isak, he isn’t like Pedro who can play as a 10.

So to me it’s actually a good thing to miss out, particularly to a team that wants Isak

We knew Liverpool were interested though and we were the ones who moved first. The hole is we knew Liverpool would come in and we didnt compete with them. Its a small hole and doesnt prove anything. As said, if we sell Isak to Liverpool, this is just cope. If we keep him, feels more likely.

Now Liverpool have bought Ekitike, do you think the chances of us keeping Isak have gone up, down or not changed?

@_pauljoyce is. @pauljoyce, who is tagged, is the Irish Canadian director of "Kids Health Link"  It seems the guy tags an abandoned account with a similar name to reputable sources so the real person doesn't see the mention and come in and spoil the fun, hence tagging @SkyGermany instead of the real account @SkySportDE in the Isak tweet

Why?

Because he was responsible for bringing in Mitchell who was unable to do any deals for a year, then left at the beginning of a window where he should have had everything set up to earn his money. It's been a year of twiddling our thumbs effectively and left us with a shoestring team to conclude business at the most important time of the year.
