Chris Wood (now playing for Nottingham Forest)

Recommended Posts

He was asked to play a very limited role in a very limited team at the time, playing very reserved football, usually up top on his own. He did exactly what he was asked to do and did it well from what I remember. Then we bought one of the best strikers in the world so we sold him.

No surprise to me he's still scoring in the PL in a more progressive role. Good on him for smashing them in so far this season.

He did exactly what we needed of him. We went from relegation form to top half form with him in the team. I thought he was important to the way we played and it was obvious as early as Leeds away.

I'm from the 'he did his job here' school but he was absolutely wank at NUFC and getting our money back was amazing business. His non-existent hold-up play was the biggest disappointment, expected that to be one of his strengths but all he could do was get his head on long balls without any controlled direction.

Chris Wood looked an absolute plank for us. So much history being re-written about his time here it's unreal.

I'm assuming everyone saying we should have kept him is joking. Not even sure what to say if they aren't.

But it's a very Newcastle thing that even the best outgoing business we've done in the last few years is looking bad at the moment.

Maybe we can swap Wilson for Wood. Forest like doing business with us.

Yeah and watch Wilson go on an uninjured 2 year streak scoring 20+ league goals per year!

Just our luck that!

His first goal tonight reminded me a lot of his goal against Southampton away

My memory of that is that they filmed the dressing room rise to applaud him, which at the time struck me as painfully patronising. Even now I wonder how he took it.

You’re a much better analyst than me if you’re not surprised that Wood is doing this well. I’m astounded

That said, I backed us signing him so I never thought he was complete shit.

I thought he was decent before we signed him, I was convinced he was not very good when he was here, I'm back to thinking he's decent again now

Exactly the same.

I don’t think he’d be starting for Forest if Awoniyi could stay fit.

This well so far this season might be a stretch, but certainly still able to start and give a decent return in the PL. I think the frustrations people had of what he was (or wasn't) doing for us are clouding peoples judgement somewhat. I'm not saying he didn't have bad performances for us or miss chances he should have scored because he did, but to call him awful and look like he was finished is wild imo.

Showed what he was in his first half a season in the game against Southampton (a). Great header from an early cross, held the ball up to a decent manner and put a shift in that was invaluable. Missed a chance from what I remember but that was what CW was and is. Still a great bench option and better than the nothing we have now. However we dont cross the ball very well so I think he would be in the same scenario he was before
