Myleftboot
He was much better for us further up the pitch when he first came. He was scoring and creating goals but we had Shelvey then who sat in front of the back 4 a bit like a quarter back. Maybe we should have signed a top more defensive midfielder to replace Shelvey and kept Bruno where he was.

timnufc22
Tonali can sit more surely, I’d have him primarily as a 6 for now, I’d rather see him in those deep positions especially near the end of games when we need to be sensible which I think he would be. Get Bruno higher up away from our own goal.
magvicar
Remember, Bruno came in and was the stand out midfielder and deservedly so. We now have Tonali and Joelinton in with him and that can take the edge of what people look for in Bruno and rather seeing all the good he does, one mistake can be picked out and amplified to the point of head scratching. Let's not do too much to make him feel like an outcast because these digs by some can escalate to a point where losing him may not be a favourable outcome. Take the good and the great when it's there and also take the bad when it happens because football is about hope not expectation.

This does not solve the issue when we have possession. Joelinton is a ball winner and an aggressive forward looking midfielder. We would need someone in the mold of Fabinho. Who can break up play, play the easy pass and defend the are in front of our back 4. When we lose the ball there is sometimes acres of space in front of our CBs. And that is because usually Bruno is not there, or he is the one losing the ball. A solid DM would allow our full backs to push up and wingers to come inside. Prime Cheick Tiote would be great there. Joelinton also takes some time to get the ball under control, he was magnificent yesterday, but there are times when he gets surrounded and is battling three players for possession. You need someone who can get a hold of the ball quickly and move it before anyone gets close.
Matt1892
Joelinton as defensive midfielder… Gordon on the right… Trippier or Livramento left back… We should be signing players for positions and not trying to shoehorn players around to make up for ingestion in the wrong positions. His brilliance when he first joined was that he kept it simple. He seemed quite isolated at times yesterday. Couple of times he received the ball and there was nobody in black and white within 20 yards. Not a problem in itself, but risky when teams have targeted him for quick closing down. I like the fluidity Tonali’s roaming play brings, but I think they’re still learning to balance each other. It was his best game in 6 months. Shame. Excellent? Man you must really like short safe passes in the middle of the pitch. Didnt create a single chance. Didnt win the ball a single time. Well below 50% success rate on passes that wasnt short and safe. Got dispossesed multiple times. On his one attempt on goal the ball went out of the stadium. Which moments of excellence did i miss? Sempiternal
Wild, not one accurate through ball played all game by us. We had one through ball all game from Gordon and it's not been recorded as accurate. With Isak we need to be upping that number. Liverpool had 3 attempts and 4 accurate ones

Myleftboot
Yes I noticed when they were breaking our midfield 3 were legging it back trying to catch up. A sitting midfielder would give us more protection.
Kanj
Part of me wishes we'd sign an older head, experienced DM or younger one who's developing but knows their role would be mostly bench, rotation, etc situationally.

I have to remember that I don't remember him I think after the red card the game was a bit like our games against Fulham or Southampton. They were sitting back and we couldn't create enough. Just that when they had a counter attack, instead of Mitrovic or Adam Armstrong, it's Mo Salah and Nunez. And even Fulham and Southampton could hurt us on the counter.. Zero
Tactically Bruno has to be the sitting defensive midfielder and protect the back four. If there’s occasion that he is not there and exposed the back four then Bruno should be held responsible. and the real question is, why is he no longer able to do it now? Or is it a matter of willingness?

gbandit
I criticised Bruno towards the end of last season, not calling him as a player into question but questioned whether his ankle was affecting him. This season, or at least these last two games I think he’s been quality, save for that pass. He’s always tried those sorts of passes here and been close to getting into trouble in dangerous areas. He’s our most creative midfielder, he’s the best at shielding the ball. When he has his next MotM game, he’ll go on a run for a while

When Liverpool went down to ten, their forwards dropped deeper and began to close him down a lot quicker. It was noticeable Trippier and Burn were tucking in to give him an easier out ball.
