Krafth once followed his man all the way to left back. They then just bumped down one each. Burn to LCB, Thiaw to RCB and Schar to RB. Elanga made sure to cover as well. 
 

Extreme example and maybe not something we would usually do. But We take man to man marking and how we press to extremes, for sure.
 

The reward clearly outweighs the risk in Howe’s eyes.

Just want to say he was brilliant last night and is a bloody good and clever player and all round good egg.

He's the sort of player that would be a cult/hero legend for service and attitude alone at a club (like a John Anderson), before you even factor in the success and a cup final winning goal

One of the times he wandered out of position in the second half was to provide an outlet and option in an attack as there weren't many other forward so we could move forward and cause danger rather than holding possession so others could get upfield and everyone can get back in their defensive shape. Its a risk reward thing that's almost certainly either deferred to the players judgement or instruction from the manager. Someone covering for that is standard stuff.

I love Dan burn, but he’s a central defender and playing him at left back against any player with pace is setting him up for a fall. Hall needs to be reintegrated into the starting lineup as quickly as possible without fucking up his recovery.

Get him back at CB in place of Botman.

I don't dislike Dan Burn, how could you. But Lewis Hall is our best LB by a mile so he needs to come in soon. With Tino back over at RB ASAP. 

 

Tino Thiaw Botman Hall is the future, that has to be made to work.

Tino Thiaw Botman Hall is the future, that has to be made to work.

Add Ramsdale and our passing game out of defence improves massively.

To be honest, it's not that difficult which is the most frustrating thing about the whole situation. It doesn't take elite managerial nous to work it out - put someone with pace up against him, wait until he goes forward and counter down his flank. He did it with Elanga perfectly when he played for them and BDB was playing left back. Sunday league stuff - put the fast guy up against the slow guy.

If I am playing him left back I would tell him to hold his position and make it into a back 3 at times - no need to go forward - if anyone needs to bring the ball out it’s Thiaw - let Joelinton cover the left flank if needs be
