AJ9
He’s great and means we can add quality in other areas of the pitch. He also clearly loves it here.
Yorkie
I certainly wouldn't have been averse to us choosing someone like Lodi instead of Targett (based on the little I've seen of the former, he looks a great talent), but happy with the signing if it happens. We know he's good and it's one problem dealt with straight away to enable us to focus funds and efforts on the rest of the team. Plus he seems like a cracking lad so that's another bonus. Good age too at 26.

Rich
Love this, was worried it wasn't happening. Potentially just waiting for Ashworth to join before doing anything official in or out?
sushimonster85
Great signing. Obviously heads get turned with the mention of the likes of Lodi, but Targett is solid, and has a huge amount of PL experience. Was always going to cause issues trying to play and ultra high, attacking full back on the same side of the pitch as ASM.

SUPERTOON
Also means we won’t have half a new defence trying to bed in at the start of the season as well.

Basically have some deals lined up (Targett, Hayden) and just put them to him, "Any issues you can see here?"
Nine
Thought we might be looking at at a more forward thinking LB but that might be a step to far for now. More than happy to see this lad back next season, solid as a rock and his character fits in perfectly with Howes dressing room. This might also indicate that ASM is staying. ponsaelius
I was on board for Lodi but if this means funds focused on forward, wide player and midfielder then it's a good decision IMO.
NE27
From VillaTalk... Quote Toon try to buy Digne in Jan and fail. They then think they are looking for better than Digne and they all think they are getting Lodi. Instead Villa sign Digne and offload our surplus squad players to Toon. It must be great being a fan of the richest club in the world Honestly, right now, things are great Swear every other set of fans are projecting this vastly wealthy club who are trying to buy the biggest names, when from the outset, it was clearly stated it was never that. GeordieDazzler
At absolute worse we are getting a very very solid squad player in what has always been a problem position for us. Didn’t put a foot wrong for us. If some relative unknown had come in from abroad and put in the same performances we’d currently be getting held ransom for them. £12m in ridiculous value in the current market. Regardless of that, it's hilarious that they think they've "won" when Targett was a vital part of the team that finished three places and four points ahead of them. They were seven places and 11 points better off than us when he joined.
sushimonster85
We also still have Jamaal Lewis, who (if he can stay fit and have a good pre-season) I remain convinced is someone Howe can improve drastically. He already looked better in the couple of games he played before getting injured. Edited June 8, 2022 by sushimonster85

Hanshithispantz
Gerrard slumped in his chair - looking like a man on the cusp of an ABH charge as his wife screams at him from the kitchen - was probably my highlight of the season.
