SteV
Thought he’d be on more than 70k at Leverkusen. Presume he’ll still be Sunderland’s top earner by a distance, but maybe not by as much as I originally thought. When you look at Leverkusen’s reported wages, it’s beyond remarkable they did what they did two seasons ago. Alonso throughly earnt that Madrid gig. Excluding the other new signings, I believe that £70k would be more than the next 5 top earners at Sunderland combined. They had a very low wage bill in the Championship. He must of been on a canny amount unless Roma were covering some (which I doubt was the case, and obviously isn’t now they’ve signed him).

I thought of him as one of the new signings so didn't consider his wages.

They have a squad full of championship level players, hardly any premiership experience and a number of big gambles, who will also be missing a few games due to AFCON. NUFCDoog
Xhaka is a really good signing like, anyone else we'd be saying it was. Still playing at a good level and signing for a newly promoted team? Insane they're getting him. They're going to surprise a few next season, said it all along that they won't go down, they've bought a lot of promising players and this will be a top one. As annoying as it is completely get the good feeling around the club, it'll help them immensely, especially in tjay first game against West Ham at home, it's the perfect first game for them. Be nowhere near a relegation fight.

They will be right at the forefront of that relegation fight, along with their fellow promoted clubs.

Who are they definitely finishing ahead of in your opinion? Not saying I agree, but would give you Burnley, Leeds, Brentford and Wolves. Saying they are definitely finishing ahead above any of the other 15 is fairly wild. Edited July 22, 2025 by SteV

Be nowhere near a relegation fight. You are only as strong as your weakest player(s) and PL managers will identify those instantly and run riot. Luke O neal or whatever he's called will be singled out. Remember how we suffered for those few games around Xmas when Burn played LB and Tripps didn't have his mind on the job. We got torn apart a few times like Forest on boxing day and other games around then. We still had Isak and Bruno and Joelinton playing (I'm sure?) but it didn't matter. Teams just target the weak links. The mackems weakness will be exploited from about the 4th game onwards once all the PL clubs data analysis teams have watched them. Wandy
They've gone from certainties for relegation to now being an unknown quantity. They could be a surprise package and avoid the relegation battle or the players bought could be totally inadequate and therefore send them straight back down. At this point nobody knows how their season will go, so only time will tell. I hope all of the wet lettuces out there who were willing them to come back are now cringing, considering how much mouth those fuckers currently have. It's not relevant, same with the "they finished 20 odd points behind Leeds and Burnley etc, if it was the same players then yeah theres a point, but they wont.
