The vast majority of the people who go to games live locally.

 

We are friends with and work with lots of people from Sunderland. There's constant football banter, sometimes friendly, sometimes less so. 

 

We barely encounter Man U or Liverpool fans at work, and when we do, unless they're from Liverpool or Manchester I frankly couldn't give a toss about their opinions and won't take any 'banter' from anyone who's just picked a winning team to support with no connection to the region or town in question, if such banter was attempted I'd just laugh at them and tell them to jog on because I have no respect for them or their opinions because they've got no skin in the game. 

 

So that's why we sing about Sunderland and not Arsenal etc. Their fans are people we care about and encounter regularly in our day to day lives.

 

(Though I'd far rather direct my energy to Newcastle)

And it would be on a far greater scale as well. We're hardly going to build a brand new 52k seater stadium like they have to replace our current 52k seater stadium. It would likely have 20k more seats.

Yeah, and also it’s already been reported a few times that the price could be anywhere from £1bn-£4bn.

They keep banging the drum about environmental issues, as a ways of justifying not building the new stadium at Leazes Park. Conveniently or should I say purposely ignoring that the Park is in a run down state, not managed or maintained and is full of rats. 
 

They loved signing up in their masses in an attempt to put a stop to the build, whilst totally being thick as shit (as was the women who instigated the petition) that no plans had even been submitted. The matter of fact is that a new stadium would actually increase the size of a new Leazes Park using the land the current stadium stands on, be massively improved and have better protection for wildlife and would be properly managed/maintained.

 

Of course when the new stadium is announced, they will revert to their faux outrage stance of sports washing.

I wish I hadn't read that. Feel like my IQ dropped about 30 points. The bitterness is incredible mind. I couldn't tell you a single thing about their stadium but they know loads about ours. The planning, the issues it could face, how it was built. All seem to have 'a friend' who knows about these things. We are their whole fuckin lives man. Oh and don't forget the ones who work in Newcastle but give the ground the finger every day. Proper MLF's.

Concrete cancer or not, I’ve always maintained that the constriction methods to create the East stand has a 50 year old life span from the construction period, that time is now up. The remaining stands were built in the 90’s, and although they might not as bad as the East stand, they are probably 20 years away from needing major work. I’ve always maintained this position on here and on SSC.

It’s quite possible that they have read what I have said, and looked up what I have said about the East stand, and applied it to the rest of the ground. It’s likely that those conversations are the ‘friend’ that they are on about.

 

As it happens I don’t disagree much with their valuation of their team. If they stay up, their value will increase somewhat, and they have a stadium that aside from general maintenance, won’t need to be touched massively for 20 years. At that point I’d say £500m-£650m would be fair for them. It’s easily what any established Premier League team is worth these days. 
The whole NUFC are only worth what they paid for them is laughable though.

Aye, Staveley had tried to buy Liverpool years ago, I think she also looked at West Ham and ruled them out. It’s also common knowledge that PIF looked at Spurs but Levy/ENIC broke off negotiations.

Staveley brought PIF to us as she thought that they were the perfect partner for us.
