"There is nothing more coveted for diehard Sunderland fans than defeating their bitter rivals, Newcastle United."

Nothing more coveted. Stick your cup wins and CL football up your arse, 3 points on derby day...

That's the official line from SAFC. How embarrassing

Even more embarrassing (if true) is that they are re-releasing the black Lonsdale away shirt from 05-06 on Friday:

It says on the video "a shirt to remember". This is the shirt they were relegated in with 14 points. Sunderland's worst ever season in their history. AND its made by Sports Direct brand Lonsdale.

Surely this a wind-up?

I would say I'm surprised, but... :nope:

Best bit is, calling us 'visitors'.... did they really not even have our crest on the scoreboard on the day, either? :uglystupid2:

Ironic them trying to reduce us to persona non grata isn't it when usually we occupy their every thought

Laugh Lol GIF by Goose

Has any other club in the whole entire world ever released official merch that details every aspect of a narrow 1-0 win in a mid season league game where the only goal was an own goal ?

I strongly suspect they might be the most deranged football club on the planet.

Presume it's all part of the fetishisation of all things retro, we're selling (or not given the 70% off price and how many are left) Fat Boy/Wonga-era shirts FFS: https://shop.newcastleunited.com/products/newcastle-united-retro-2013-2014-3rd-shirt

Their obsession with us has been their undoing before and it will be again.

I completely believe that the reason they ended up in League 1 was because for years all they were bothered about was beating us. Nothing else mattered. It's why they constantly changed manager just in time to face us. It's also no coincidence that the season they finally were relegated was the season we weren't in the league.

It's happened again this season, all downhill since beating us, nothing else matters. If we beat them next month it'll kill them, even though they have defied all expectations , it won't matter.

When we were relegated, and they had Big Sam, I honestly thought at thr end of that season they had a decent team, they could've tried to push on, but we'd been relegated and they hadn't so it was like they "completed it" so nothing mattered.

There are plenty of smaller clubs than them that have done a lot better than them in recent years, if they could get over their obsession with us they'd have a chance of building something, but as a fanbase they're not ready for it. If they beat us twice this season and went down on those 6 points, I honestly think most of them would take it and there'd be commemorative merch released, DVDs and celebrations of an epic season.

It's sad really, we need to play them early next season and beat them, they'd fall apart then.

I actually like that for the price and seeing as it's without the Wonga logo. Them bringing their derby celebration t shirt out just sums them up. They really are SMBs.

At home on the first day as we welcome back the FA Cup and Champions League double winners, mackems forced to be in the ground early to watch the trophies get a lap before we smash them to bits

Sunderland in the middle of a Community Shield & Super Cup double-header we'd still find a way to draw 1-1.
