Shar saved his ass. Rooted to the spot as Shar clears off the line. Then the post saved him. Two he should have got to.

Their goal would have had "PoPe GeTs ThAt" with Ramsdale. Well he didn't, and it was easier than the Chelsea freekick that Ramsdale was slated for.

Him making a save is doing his job. Him being saved twice is not. He got very very lucky.

His distribution wasn't the usual alarming mess, however.

Possibly match sharpness, but they're both not good enough. Pope is the better of the two, though.

See how he does against Palace.

It needs to sink in that we have a very good goalkeeper, accept that he's not the best with the ball at his feet, and realise that stature and shot stopping is more important in winning games than passing to a full back.

Reality is, although not a strong part of his game, his play from the back is nowhere near as bad as some make out, passing from the back is decreasing incrementally as teams look to counter a high press, and to upgrade on Pope would seriously hamper our budget to strengthen in other areas.

No way we win that without Pope tonight. Just that 1v1 save made a huge difference. Ramsdale never seemed to have made a save like that in his few starts recently.

As I said and genuinely believe he'll turn what we're draws into wins and losses into draws with his saves.

I get the issues with his kicking but that's a secondary skill, what you need as an essential skill from a goal keeper is the ability to keep the goal.

That's not fair on popey mind the two times he was saved the defence was all over the place and the burnley players could basically pick there spot he's not a superhero mate where he gets to everything.

One thing I did find amusing very early on in the game was the defence not using Pope as a passing angle. If Burnley pressed early on, it would’ve gave us serious issues because passing flat across a back line and into Bruno with a CM all over him, is asking for trouble. I know he’s not great with his feet and it’s probably a conscious choice by defence to not put him in unnecessary situations, but we do still need to use him otherwise sides will go back to pressing us and we will turnover it over more again.

There was a moment when Tonali (I think) could comfortably pass the ball to pope to get himself out of a defensive jam, but he looked up and seen pope and instead manoeuvred his body so he could launch the ball diagonally up field. we lost possession.

maybe I’m being hyper critical of everything pope does. Just wish he could kick.

he was costing us points a lot before his injury so hopefully the break he's had will do him good

don't think he was anything special last night,  a couple of standard saves

agree he got lucky a couple of times and Ramsdale would've been slated for the goal conceded
