Alexander Isak: has a chance to play against Everton (Howe)

Recommended Posts

I’m not convinced we’ll be in a title race next season - and we don’t know how long three of the Sky Six will remain broken.

I can’t see Man City remaining this way, too.

We’re at least four first-teamers away from that at the moment (GK, at least one CB, CM, RW) - not allowing for any departures.

We’d be pretty damn close to second place in the league with some consistency against sides around us and below us imho. Hopefully the mental block v Liverpool, City etc is slowly disappearing

It'll be a good test of how far we've come in terms of managing European football next year.

I think this is key, we saw the impact Europe had on us with injuries. The squad needs to be miles better to make a push in Europe and still qualify for Europe/CL again in the same season.

I really think so much depends on CL qualification this year. Extra funds, better chance of holding onto players and the ability to attract better players. Huijsen is prime example. Going for 50m this summer, clearly fits our profile, with CL theres a chance we'll be in the running, without CL I think theres no chance.

I like to think he'd have more foresight than to go to AFC if they could even put up the money required. I stand by that they're a big club, not an elite club. LFC potentially heading into turbulant waters with the departure of at least Trent but potentially VVD and Salah as well. MCFC have the viking.

Doing my best to not see it through black and white glasses and remove emotion, but it really feels like his only 'smart' destinations would be outside the PL at the obvious clubs.

If anywhere I could see him as Lewansowski’s replacement at Barcelona for sure. If they have the money of course or sell off their rights for the next 100 years

The new generation of Messi v Ronaldo

Isak v Mbappe

Roque v Endrick

Yamal v Guler

Raphina v Vini

Pedri v Bellingham

Piece in The Athletic about potential targets for Liverpool's number 9 next season:

Quote

The Newcastle striker is set to be the most in-demand forward in Europe heading into the summer transfer window and the fee any side would have to pay to acquire him will reflect that. Liverpool like the player but would have to weigh up whether it is wise to prioritise an outlay well in excess of £100million ($129m) over addressing other areas of the squad.

There is no doubt Isak is the complete package. He is the spearhead of Newcastle’s attack and provides a constant threat in the box (6.2 touches in the penalty area and three shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League this season), while also playing his part in build-up play. According to Fbref, the second and third most similar players who have played in the Premier League this season are Jota and Diaz.

The chances of Liverpool being prepared to pay the kind of money it would need to secure Isak are remote, although that may change if Salah does not agree a new deal and leaves. In that case, Liverpool would surely have to over-index securing a player who could provide a similar level of goalscoring.

Such a flawed article this. How does then losing their best player on a free make them more likely to buy someone who plays a different position?

I think it's just hinting that if they let a player of Salah's calibre go then there'll be a huge demand from everyone at the club to plug the gap with another world class player.

Liverpool look a lot less appealing when Trent is likely gone this summer, and ?s over Salah and Virgil staying next season.

Against that, they will be champions this season, and I would imagine they would be selling Nunez if they really wanted to go for Isak. Not sure what their PSR position is, but they are probably one of the few clubs who could afford Isak. Whether they would be prepared to pay £150m is another matter. I doubt it.

Whatever happened to Osimhen? A few years ago he was considered a 100m player and on a higher level than Isak in terms of guaranteed goals. How did he fall so far?

Not sure how he ended up at galatasaraay but he's got 20 in 22 for them this season

Fell out with Conte towards the end of the summer window. He's only on loan at Gala so will likely get punted this summer.

His wage demands are high it's what stopped him from signing for Chelsea in the summer.

I see the latest rumour is that he wants to stay, but his agent is concerned about his future options with so many "big clubs" needing to tie down a striker this summer.

Going to be so much clickbait about this but strip it all back and only 3 viable options exist.

1: stay and don't extend. (he will be slightly cheaper to buy in 12 months time. But loses out on a year with a higher salary.

2: stay and extend with a clause which is lower than our currently asking price. This means he gets his bump with an out

3: leave this summer (the least likely imo as he's got no leverage).

I'm not surprised to hear this. If he stays in the Prem he is going to stay at Newcastle.

The pull that his agent will be thinking of will be regarding Barca who are looking to replace Lewandowski. Particularly because the wages on offer will be massive too.

If it ends up being a move to Barca for the price we're after. Fair enough IMO.

The likes of Liverpool and Arsenal have no chance I reckon.
