Letting our best players go to another team in the same league just doesn’t feel right; and from an optics standpoint, it looks like we’re giving up ground.

It’s not a move we should even be considering imo.

It's not being considered.

I actually think Ekitike alongside Isak, and we have about the same chance as Liverpool do.

Liverpool were nothing special last season, nothing for us to fear. Heck we beat them in one of their biggest days last season, and were robbed of beating them at home. We outplayed them twice in 3 games and have went toe to toe with them in recent seasons.

A little bit of squad depth and we are right in there, maybe not a title favourite, but within the talk.

Why can't others on here see this logic. We are there or thereabouts.

I reckon if we got ekitike we could have a go at the league. Who's to say wirtz doesn't flop at a more physical and quicker paced league.

Keep him for 2 years then stare highest bid get him in thr final year of his contract. Hopefully by then we're less reliant on him or we've moved forward enough for him to stay on his own accord.

Liverpool are very much favourites to win it again, especially if they get one of Ekitike or Isak.

I personally think Man City will win it. However some people thinking Liverpool "are very much favourites" are convinced very easily.

I always had a horrible feeling he'd end up at those cunts, but thought he'd be here for this season at least!

This reminds of the despair I felt when Waddle, Beardsley and Gazza were taken from us in the 80's.....although then it was a lack of money and ambition that costs us.....we have both in spades but can't actually do anything because of the way these clubs make up the rules to protect themselves.

It's an absolute fucking pisstake.

Today has given me horrible PTSD, remembering the despair of selling Waddle, Beardsley, Gascoigne and also Carrol. Those sales were understandable despite the horror of them, due to the incompetent fuckwits who ran the club at those times. These times are supposed to be different and therefore any Isak sale would not only be totally unacceptable but it would be worse than any of those previous four. I don’t care if the player even wants the move, he should be swiftly told there is no chance of it happening, this summer anyway. Instead, give him a new contract with a bumper pay rise and a clause that says he can go for £150m to one of the continental giants if he wants it from next summer onwards. Under no circumstances should he be allowed to move to another PL club.

So by all accounts, all Liverpool did was ask if he was for sale and got told no. Doesn't sound like an approach of £120m to me.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure the 120m figure is only banded around because he's unfathomably been described as a "120m related player"

Whatever Liverpool eventually offer say £120m, if indeed they ever do, our response should be double it and we might talk!!!!  We are building a team to challenge for the title so why would we entertain strengthening one of our rivals.  I think Liverpool are concerned that we could really mount a title challenge!!!

Exactly this! We have the top teams rattled. I'm telling you, we are not a million miles away.

To be fair from my end the paltry bid is part of the problem. I'd feel a lot better about it if it was £170+ for what the reinvestment could do for us, accepting that because of the bullshit rules its inevitable. Amongst the many qualms with the rules is that it will limit clubs paying what a play like Isak is actually worth relative to other transers and pressure clubs into accepting less money. Works out well for the usual suspects of course.

The wheels were coming off Slot's team last year.

I agree with this, Salah is getting old and VVD is getting slow, his partner wants to leave. Obviously other stuff out of their control.

Not exactly Fair Market Value is it?

That's still a thing right?

Secretly hope Yasir takes this personally and gets more involved as a result. Imagine trying to negotiate with the fucker after you've gone out of your way to try and strongarm him and his club, almost to the point of disrespecting him. Doesn't strike me as someone you'd want to make an enemy of
