It's all well and good saying he's staying and that he will play next season but I feel there is already too much water under the bridge with this and I could definitely see an unhappy, sulky Isak for us next year and be nowhere near as good as he has been.

Not only that, it could potentially be a pretty toxic environment and feeling between the fans and him which isn't ideal!

I too feel that too many bridges have been burned since this whole episode started gaining traction.

If he does stay he'll need to score against Liverpool to recover any sort of good will like. His legacy is well and truly tarnished.

He’s gone - not sure why there’s even a debate on the matter.

I’d be perfectly understanding of the lad’s position - he’ll earn more money and actually win the big pots by moving to a bigger club.  I can’t begrudge him that.  But I am struggling with the way he’s went about it - he’s soured his time with us by doing it.  He likely doesn’t give two shites of course - but as Gilbert Gottfried once said about Pacino and De Niro appearing in shite films ‘their legacy doesn’t mean much to them; but it means something to me’

Something I’ve just read on Twitter which is a good point - how amateurish of his agent to not negotiate a minimum fee release in his contract. Either he’s negligent there or he didn’t have faith/recognise how high his clients ceiling was. Either way - piss poor and would have saved all the shenanigans from the last few weeks.

Walkin confirming the reports that Isak had told the club last Summer that the coming season would be his last with the club. If that's true it's all the more damning the situation we've found ourselves of not having a big deal lined up and ready to go at the start of the Summer.

Sure they were saying he was huffed cos mitchell never gave him a new contract offer as well

It can't be both of them...

I’m not sure I would’ve made a difference, it’s almost August and we haven’t received a bid for Isak. Plus we’ve been trying for expensive forwards all summer and failing anyway.

Sure he may have said that, and our stance would be same last summer. Next summer you have three years left on deal, unless we get an eye watering bid, you are going no where.

Part of the reason there's been no bid is supposedly Liverpool knowing we won't even talk without a replacement lined up. And our bids keep failing as rivals get wind and swoop in. If we had something lined up and ready to go theres little/no chance of that happening.

This is my big worry.

Maybe they should have stayed out of buying Ekitike then

If you take emotion out of the equation and only look at the facts, I don’t see how him playing for us again is so unthinkable. He’s dodged pre-season friendlies and obviously wants to go to another club, he hasn’t said he’ll never play for us again or refused any competitive games. If an acceptable bid doesn’t come in he’ll have no option but to do what thousands of players before him have done and get on with his job.

Since we're theory crafting, it could also be miscommunication. Say Isak was expecting an improved contract, but Mitchell was intending to offer an improved and extended contract which Isak may not have been interested in, so we ended up not offering him anything since it wouldn't be accepted anyway?

Like what did he think would happen.

Isak last summer, “Darren, this is my last season at the club. I’ll be leaving next summer”

Darren “Oh, ok. Didn’t realise your contract was ending, where you planning to go?”

Isak “Liverpool, they’ve expressed interest and I’m going to go there when they make a bid”.

Darren “Bid? Ah, thought contract was ending how you made it sound like you was off, no ifs or buts”.

Totally agree.

we should be as cunty as possible about it and extract every penny from Liverpool that we can, but Isak’s got to go. Fuck him as well. The way he’s gone about this is disgraceful, really.

There’s appearing in films that don’t work, then there’s pulling a cunt’s trick. The former shouldn’t lead to not being able to look at yourself in the mirror, the latter, assuming presence of a moral conscience/good values, could lead to exactly that.
I think Alex is a good man, young and more naive than he thinks he is (as all of us are at 25), but good nonetheless. He is going to want to reflect on and celebrate every chapter of his life and career. Hope, for all concerned, this doesn’t play out in a way that makes it hard for him to do so.

A RAWK post. I love how the 'news' they have read they believe is true. Can anyone actually tell me the below is what really happened?

I agree Paul Mitchell fooked up with the contract to Isak but im sure we have also said that if we get a suitable offer (NOT 120M) and a replacement, that he is welcome to leave. Also, they think we are crying about PSR and the fact we are not like Man City... I dont want to be like Man City!!! I am happy to wait for success and I think we have done very well to build as we have with PSR thanks to Eddie mainly. But Liverpool supporters seem to forget that their transfer sagas also play out in the world and they've also REFUSED to sell players. He is our player and if you dont offer what he is worth (Guehi is 40m for f sake in the last YEAR of his contract). If Harry Kane went for 100m in his final year then Isak is definitely worth at least 180m with 3 years left.

They also bang on about the 'cartel clubs' that we believe exist. Well.... I agree that PSR is designed to stop another Man City and I would agree because its ruined football. But the continued love in to sky 6 in every possible way is disgusting. I want to make it up the way fairly, which is why 180m for Isak is FAIR. Pay it or f*** off until next year.

Isak is a professional and i don't begrudge him success but the sheer way liverpool fans believe he belongs to them needs to stop. He has 3 years left and you're believing the liverpudlian shit written in your newspapers. Ill wait to hear it from Isak or Eddie or our owners before I judge what has happened.

Plus, we are going after top targets, perhaps naively. But if one comes off, like Isak, then who's laughing now???

"Just contrast how Newcastle have dealt with Izak compared to how we dealt with Diaz.

Diaz asked to leave 12 months ago. We offered him two new contracts, which he rejected. We said he could leave if someone met our asking price of circa €80m. We looked for a replacement. That process took 12 months. None of this was done in public.

Last year Izak was promised a new contract, which never appeared. He told them well in advance this would be his last year. They get to the summer and Newcastle are still in denial and Izak is making all of this public.

Newcastle are a shambles. Few players would want to be treated like that. No wonder they have difficulty getting signings, apart from all the other issues at the club.

Besides, who wants to wear black and white when red is such a noble colour."

Plus they cant even spell his name right.

Would you rather that, or £150m that we can't spend anyway and Isak scoring seven against us over the course of the season and helping Liverpool to a second league triumph, his smiley face front and centre on the celebration pictures?
