I'd place a handsome wager that you will celebrate his goals if he remains.

Didn’t say I wouldn’t. I said I don’t want to which suggests I reluctantly would celebrate them

Ah come on man. It is what it is and like all of us you’re strapped in for the ride, ups and downs.

Isak’s conduct sucks but it’s quite rational given his circumstances. Business has no respect for emotions or decency, and football is the grimmest of businesses.

Howe will see us right, man.

I was listening to the Overlap thing this morning and when the Newcastle supporter suggested the fair fee for Isak being around £150m, many on the show seemed entirely bowled over in astonishment at it. It's not the first time I've read or seen that reaction either. For me it feels very cut and dry, if Wirtz is £116m, then one of the world's best strikers, proven in the Premier League, with a unique skillset and at the perfect age is surely worth £30m+ more? Are we missing something here or is it just an example of the condescending attitude of the cartel club supporters towards all things Newcastle United?

For doubters, Isak has four goals in six games vs. Liverpool. Something similar against Arsenal.

He was seventh fastest to 50 goals in Premier League history. Faster than Suarez, Henry, and Ageuro.

If you cannot see value there, you do not understand football.

His record sets his value, not some high and mighty "we never overpay" bollocks (see Nunez and Ekitike) from Liverpool fans.

I do find it quite funny how emotional this is getting for people. He's not a geordie, he doesn't owe us anything. He's made a tit of himself, it's embarrassing yes but not unforgiveable if he bangs them in for us and leaves for big money next summer.

Obviously a dickhead if he leaves, but I'll save my tears for then.

What's more depressing is that we are locked in a PSR cage and can't even spend our way out of it. Then we have to put up with listening to their drivel like victims instead of just buying up all their best players instead.

I think I'd rather have post-curry diarrhea mainlined into my veins than listen to the cartel circle jerk that is the Overlap

One thing that this whole rather sad affair has made me think about is that the club could really do with pulling back on all the nostalgia and local pride stuff, thinking particularly of all the kit reveal videos, as depressing as that is. In a PSR era, and when you're actually trying to compete at the top level with other clubs who operate like ruthless corporate machines, it's actually detrimental for fans to become so attached to the players. It's become obvious to me that it makes player trading much more difficult.

He owes us doing his job on the contract he's agreed to.

If he does that then we'll give him another chance I imagine. Might not celebrate the first few goals that much but I'll learn to accept him at some point.

He scored the winning goal in our first cup final win in my lifetime. It was the best moment I've had supporting Newcastle and I'd have to be a robot to not get emotional when that same person acts the cunt to try and force a move to the team we beat 3 months later.

Not being emotional about it all basically means packing football in altogether for me. Sweet isn't sweet without the sour and all that, it'll make it all the better if/when we win the war.

Interesting point and reminded me I think Isak's inclusion in this season's marketing material provides another clue to him totally catching us out with his behaviour. For example I thought it was pretty telling that Bruno was nowhere to be seen in those amazing videos last year, when we were all but advertising him for sale at £100m.

I do agree with the fact he doesn't owe us anything, it's not like he's connected to the area etc, he was already a very good player before he joined us, it's a short career etc.

I think the handling of the situation has been shite from all sides.

Being attached to players is nothing new mind. As for local pride, that's very important imo. We're not a club that's followed by fans from all over the world. Majority of our fans are local or at least have a Newcastle connection that brings them back to games. Wouldn't want to change that, ever.

In relation to the very big clubs yes, but we've got a good following worldwide compared to basically anyone outside the top 6 imo.

Honestly, I'm so confused about what's going on with Isak. I just don't get it, where did it all go wrong? This guy was a club legend, well, not anymore. His celebration after scoring in the final is iconic. We were comparing him to Shearer, some even thought he'd be better, and now he's being compared to Owen? It's crazy.

We all knew he'd leave eventually, and we were okay with it. But this? It just feels wrong.

If he stays, I'll be happy and sing his praises, I'll forgive him, but I won't forget.

I'd rather he just leave. Get Wissa and Watkins as a temporary fix while we find the next big star.

Isak broke my heart. It's not because he's leaving, I knew that was coming, but the way he did it and the club he wants to join, ugh. I bet some of the other players and Eddie feel the same.

Newcastle's gonna have a killer season, I reckon. They'll win another trophy, make the Champions League again, and maybe even go to the quarter-finals this time. Eddie's totally gonna pull this off, you know it. It would be soooo Eddie to do it. Lets use all this negative energy as fuel.

No and I'm not advocating we adopt some sort of entirely dispassionate approach to the club's history etc but I think, for example, putting out that video in the Irish Centre where Isak calls Asprilla over, to the tune of Local Hero, when the club was apparently fully aware that he would want away this summer, I'm aghast that was given the green light. That was like a month ago FFS.

I will be with you once we have a striker through the door.

Honestly? This is what the super-wealthy do sometimes. They can get away with it because they can afford to. His bargaining position is incredibly strong, so while I think his conduct is immoral and highly disrespectful to the club and fanbase, I do at least see the logic in it. The club has not done some of the things it said it would, and he could earn and win more elsewhere.

Certainly, we could seek to sue him for breach of contract I imagine. I doubt it will be of much use to us in practice.

If we get Wissa in, his position is significantly weaker. At that point we could put him on the bench until either Liverpool pays up or Isak decides he would like to play football

Is it? He’s still one of the best players in the division who instantly makes us way better when he plays properly. He will make bank whenever he chooses to do so.

I don’t condone it but I understand it. The bit that did surprise me is that I thought his reputation with the squad, club and us meant more to him than it does, but I don’t know the bloke from Adam.

Whatever the case may be - if he's staying, top up his salary to 180 or 200k so he's on it this season. Even a 1 or 2 year extension.

Release clause of £180m in PL, £150m outside

More than reasonable.

Yes because once we have an alternative we are not in this precarious position. We can afford to be a bit more hard ball and say ok sit on the pine. At present there is no one else to play in that position.
