Don’t like the sound of this and don’t understand it. Eddie saying this just encourages Liverpool to make another low ball offer as apparently we can’t stop him leaving.

There's an assumption in here that we would always have been happy to sell Isak for £Xm (be that 150 or whatever valuation the club have now put on him) this window.

 

But all the indications are that we didn't want to sell Isak this summer, be it for 150m or anything else.

 

We are now having to consider selling him because he's been unsettled and because of the ensuing circus that has completely derailed what was already a pretty shit transfer window.

 

It's a situation we don't want to repeat with other players in future which is why there's talk of taking a stand as a deterrent. Liverpool tried exactly the same thing with Gordon last year and have done the same with other clubs on several occasions. If we don't make it awkward for them they'll keep on doing it, as will others.

 

I'd be happy right now for the club to point blank refuse to sell to Liverpool (or tell them the price is £20m more for them than for anyone else) to make that point.

We're definitely not.

 

But at the same time, it won't come to that because it benefits nobody.

 

In the event he stays he will absolutely end up reintegrated with the squad and playing once back to full fitness because that's what Eddie will want, what Isak will want and what the rest of the team will want.

My prediction is that Liverpool will move onto someone else if this doesn't get resolved in the next 10 days. They're much bigger than Isak is and won't think twice about leaving him in the lurch even though he seems to have burned his bridges here.

My opinion for what is worth, is that Eddie wont have him training with the team while there is question marks where he will be. Eddie will be working on formation and tactics that he wont want a future ex-player to be privy to. I don't think Isak is refusing to train with the squad, he's just not allowed to. If the question of him staying ends up positive he will be reintegrated.

Liverpool have pretty much orchestrated this. He’ll be acting vile so we want to get shut of him asap for a price lower than the £150m spoken about.

As I said in the Eddie Howe thread I think Isak has checked out mentally and so it's not as easy as just telling him to stay, it benefits no one holding him hostage but that's a two way street, he can't hold us hostage either, there has to be an acceptance that he only gets to leave if his valuation is met, he believes he's world class and deserves world class wages in a world class team, well that comes with a world class price tag.

 

I trust Eddie to get this right, whether that's extracting maximum value or reintegrating a valuable asset back into the team if his valuation isn't met.

He'll end up going for around £125-130m. That lowball bid a few weeks back was designed to sweeten a figure closer to Liverpool's actual valuation of him, especially as the situation continues to escalate and his position here becomes more untenable.

It's obvious from Eddie's press conference that he is completely livid with him. You don't refuse to integrate a player with the group on the basis that he won't sign a contract, he's clearly acting a complete cunt for it to get to that stage.

I don't know. Eddie also said it wasn't any cause for diciplinary actions.

If it's Newcastle's position that either he signs a new contract or we have to let him go, I can see him being left out of the team until things becomes more clear.
