They all acted up, but they still played and trained. Isak completely cut ties with Newcastle. He didn't train or play. We're three games in, and he's not even on the bench. Comparing that to others who threw a fit but still played is just wrong. When that meeting on Monday didn't go well, it was over. Like I said, if the club thought they could bring him back, he'd stay. Him leaving shows there was no way back for him. Suarez was training alone and missed the start of the season anyway because he had a ten-match ban for biting someone and Kane returned late for the pre-season, trained alone and missed the first couple of games due an alleged injury before being reintegrated into the squad. Isak has been unusually obstinate or bloody-minded but it's a difference of degree rather than an unprecedented situation.
CallumG6
PIF establishing themselves as a paper tiger the way they've capitulated here. When you consider the disgusting methods from Liverpool, using media shills, unsettling and tapping up the player whilst completely derailing our pre-season and first 3 games, the fee we've come to an agreement on is a bitter pill to swallow. Throw in the manner of our defeat to them last week. Better to not dwell on what's happened, but lessons absolutely have to be learned here. Saudis might have all the money in the world, but they've got a lot to learn in how to run a football club, played like a cheap fiddle by Liverpool. If they had any sense, from a PR perspective, they'd announce the new director of football this week to take the edge off. Another striker coming in is a non-negotiable, if we go into this season with Woltemade and Osula, it's an absolute disaster and us fans will be rightly onto them. Not unprecedented, but Isak has held out longer for the most part. Edited September 1, 2025 by Vinny Green Balls

They had just finished 8th in the league. No CL football. A player everyone knew wanted to leave. An unhappy fanbase. 1 buyer in the market. The only leverage they had was the negotiation reputation and acumen of Daniel Levy Nah, Isak ain't Kane, man. Kane's scoring record is way better. A 30-year-old Kane is still worth more than a 26-year-old Isak in this market. Sorry, but this is a bad comparison. Levy knew he had one of the best strikers ever in the epl making his bargaining position strong. Isak's good, but it's silly to compare them.

More like relationship with PIF and the Fenway Group to keep the stream of players going to their Saudi League. Not only have PIF sold him cheap they have given them half the money to pay for the transfer. Liverpool have taken advantage of that. I don't doubt that no sporting director and our usual way of making decisions has left us a little soft but it's daft to compare the hands of the two clubs. Spurs have no intention of spending their PSR limits. Spurs business model is to make actual money. Spurs personally enriches Levy. If they didn’t sell Kane in that window they would have got max. £30-50m in January and that’s with a desperate buyer. They had to sell him in that window. Only had 1 buyer. And they got their fee. You’re giving Levy no credit for being a tough seller.
Gottlob
Howe is as temperate as they come and I'm sure fairly understanding but he places a high value on leadership and team harmony and has shown in the past that there's a line you don't cross. Ryan Fraser is one example and there have also been rumours of a falling out with Longstaff. If Howe was adamant that he had to be sold then fair enough. My sense though is that from the start of the transfer window we've been trying to facilitate Isak's eventual departure and the club as a whole deserves plenty of blame for the situation we've end up in, scrambling over the last few hours of the transfer window having sold a world-class striker for a compromised fee. Shays Given Tim Flowers
I'm not saying anything about Levy, just that it's not the straightforward comparison you paint it as. I'm not even trying to persuade you as to anything as I've got far more sense than that. Just you know it's important that someone peridocially posts a counterpoint to your deluge of posts. Taylor Swift
PIF as a paper tiger. I've read it all. PIF is a sovereign wealth fund that's regularly topped up with shares of Saudi Aramco, the 2nd best money printer in the world after the Federal Reserve, with assets of more than $1tn. Fenway Sports Group has assets worth - at most - $15bn. They are not in the same stratosphere. We need to chill out a bit and let this play out over 3-5 years. No. They could have even inflated the Nunez fee further on the understanding they would inflate the Isak fee. No need. FSG outmanoeuvred PIF at every turn. Lish007
I dont think its bad we sold. Its a good cash bump for a player that wanted to win titles and CL titles. We are just not there yet. Liverpool have had their shares of laughable transfers over the years- this is a transfer summer they have got right. But they've been laughable for a long time before this - now is their time to dominate. We just need to suck it up. We are not there yet, we have a lot to learn. But we will. Enjoy the journey. They'll find ways to pump in money.
