Nobody really knows anything tbh. We're all just guessing really and will have our own thoughts about it.

 

Ultimately Isak got what he wanted, his agent got what he wanted, Liverpool got what they wanted, the Premier League got what they wanted, and we lost our most valuable player to a rival club. Always going to leave a bitter taste in the mouth.

I don't let myself get too wound up by these things. I couldn't care less about Isak anymore, and we are better off with 2 solid (hopefully) strikers where neither of them seem injury prone. Last season our form was highly dependant on whether Isak was fit and in form. I don't think we will be worse off, and we might be more consistent this way. Sure, the Liverpool fans are be annoying, but they love to see us whine and be emotional about this. Lets not give them that joy.

When Supermac went to Arsenal many moons ago it felt much worse.  Different times and circumstances but the whole city was devastated as he really was adored.

 

I felt worse when Cole left than this tbh.  Big Nick and Wissa already look more invested in the club than Isak ever did.

That's it really. Nowadays we are in a much better position to take a big departure in our stride and move forward regardless.

Don't think many people will just let it go. People still talk about Supermac leaving for Arsenal for £333,333.33 all those years ago! I suspect after everything that's happened it'll rumble on for a while tbh. No problem with that.

 

I'm too young to remember Supermac leaving but my dad reckons the city went into mourning for a bit! The nearest comparison i can make personally is Andy Cole to Man Utd. I'll be honest that felt much worse but maybe that's cos I was a lot younger and more involved. Remember Waddle (vaguely), Beardsley and Gazza leaving but we were a selling club back then.

Andy Cole was a massive shock but it was totally different. IIRC it came out of the blue (obvs there was no internet) and he didn't do anything wrong personally. It was a painful sale but just for the normal reason that he was many people's favourite player. Not the kind of drawn out betrayal like we've had with Isak.

Cole was hard mainly because I was 10 :lol: and it was the first time something like that happened. He immediately became a bit of a hate figure when he went to Man United, but when you watch those matches now it's of an era and you sort of ignore him a bit. Can see that happening with Isak eventually because I don't think it's realistic to get to say 10 years from now and not be able to enjoy all of the cup final.

It's okay, everyone has a different way of processing things. Personally I don't really get strong emotional connection to individuals in our club, with the excpetion being the likes of Howe and Bruno, for reasons of personality and passion towards the club (with the contribution towards our success still being a factor ofcourse).

 

II mostly just care about our success as a team. I don't think losing Isak will hurt us much given that we signed 2 presumably solid strikers. We didn't need one of the very best striker in the world to gather some more points from the games that we have played so far. We only needed a solid one. We've won games through having one of the best, but also lost a lot of points due to not having a solid one when Isak has been out or unfit.

 

Selling Isak alloweded us to get good depth up top without using any of our budget, which in turn means better depth in other positions.
