Mattoon
Loving the demise of the most moralest club in the whole wide world and it tastes even sweeter that the catalyst for said downfall is the rat that deserted us. Their whole £500m summer looks like the most expensive of Emperors new clothes, their crown jewels have turned to coal and their shiny new manager looks an absolute fraud. It may not stay this way, but right now its the perfect schadenfreude and I will revel in it for as long as it continues.
AyeDubbleYoo
VDV has been conceding goals while jogging back for seasons now. Don't think I've ever seen the guy sprint.
Erikse
The rat kind of needs a run of games, but they really can't afford losing much more. Ekitike has to start. It's a vicious cycle. Edited October 20, 2025 by Erikse
Cronky
Isak has failed at a big club before, so all sorts of outcomes are possible. It's easier to win a title than it is to defend it, so there's pressure on the team as a whole. There's extra pressure on Isak, because it will look to his new team-mates that he's decided to hitch on to the success that they have created themselves. Nothing wrong with a player doing that, but you then have to really prove your worth.

Andy
He'll come good for them as soon as Slot (or their next manager) is brave enough to move away from Salah being the entire focal point of their attack. Until then, drink it in.

I don't really like Romano, but he was right. No player goes on strike without a backup plan. In Isak's case, it was Liverpool. So they had to go for him. Otherwise, they would've screwed up his career, basically.

The fuck would Liverpool care about screwing up the career of a player they didn't end up signing in that hypothetical scenario? They absolutely didn't have to go for him, the clueless, arrogant fucks.

They wouldn't give a shit about ruining his career if they decided they needed to strengthen their defence instead, for example. Liverpool didn't sign Isak because he suited their system or because they felt he was the missing piece though, they signed him as a statement. They always intended to sign him, and I wouldn't even be that surprised if we always intended to sell him and a lot of the background noise was just a big media pantomime. The speed at which such a high money, high profile deal suddenly went through when Woltemade came in suggests to me that there was little chance of them walking away or of it ever actually falling through. Mike
Man, can you imagine how mad we would be if we were getting these performances from him after that fucking Summer?
ToonTom
Was just saying on The Mag: The key to Isak's issues seems to be that we played with him in mind but Liverpool is so full of cracking players that they play with themselves in mind. Gakpo, Salah, and the rest are all more than talented in their own rights and don't need Isak as a spearhead so he's going to have to go looking for his own chances or few will be coming his way. He's good in front of goal with the ball, but so are so many other players.

So, Liverpool basically told Isak to go on strike so they could get him for less than he's worth. He does it, and then Liverpool's like, "Nah, we don't need you anymore, Ekitike's doing great." Best you try to fix things with Newcastle or find another team, yeah? Isak wouldn't have gone on strike unless Liverpool told him to and promised him they'd get it done. Thats fairly obvious. They totally had to follow through. He did his bit, they had to do theirs. If they didn't tell him to strike, maybe he signs a new contract and is still at Newcastle. Doc
For £130 mill, nah mate, they didn't "have" to do anything. For your last sentence, I think they'd be fine with that at the minute.

Is there a case to be made that if they hadn’t signed him after telling him they would if he did his bit to lower the value, that their primary tactic would be less effective in future? More difficult to get other players to force a move in future if they’ve gone back on their word in such a high profile case? So maybe it was more about them than about him? Doc
£130 mill v a possible future scenario that may possibly never happen, can't see the number crunchers signing off on that myself, may be wrong, who knows?

Dr Venkman
Also I think ‘possible future scenario that may never happen’ is an extremely generous way of describing the likelihood of them being absolute cunts to get what they want from an incoming transfer.
