Yeah, they did. I don't really like Romano, but he was right. No player goes on strike without a backup plan. In Isak's case, it was Liverpool. So they had to go for him. Otherwise, they would've screwed up his career, basically.

That sounds distinctly like an Isak problem and not a Liverpool problem. They had to go for him, behave. If they had any sense, they'd have done the complete opposite and telt him to get to fuck exactly because of how he acted.

To those old enough to know, is there a bit of Andy Cole about this atm? Not in the sense of how he left as Cole I don’t think wanted to leave from what I’ve read and heard; his and Keegan’s fallout in October 1993 changed their relationship permanently and one of Keegan’s flaws is his inability to forgive misgivings apparently. But more in the sense of play style? Cole certainly didn’t go about it like a total cunt as this heinous fucker did.

The 93-95 side was built for Cole to score goals and he was absolutely phenomenal for us as a result. Similar to how Isak was. Once Isak goes to a team that isn’t built in that way he fails to have the impact there that he did here similar to how Cole started life at Man United. We then adapted how we played in 1995-96 after sticking a short term plaster over the Cole shaped hole up front with Kitson and Cole then changed how he himself played at Man United compared to he at us, whether Isak can do that remains to be seen. Hopefully not, ideally he gets ravaged by a pack of XL Bullies as soon as possible.

I said this a few pages back, for every Andy Carroll theres an Andy Cole, I remember the running joke being "Cole not being able to score in a brothel with £7m strapped to his nob" but once it clicked he was prolific.

Frimpong’s attacking style is suited to Isak.   Salah/Bradley on the right and Gakpo on the left stink for Isak.

Etikite is better suited to play with Salah.  Better at linking up, playing wall passes and such.

Yea, agree with you on Frimpong. Could be with the form Salah is in, there’s a legit argument that Frimpong as a direct RW crossing straight away will be great for Isak. But then Salah when he clicks, is world class.

Here is Isak's touch map yesterday. He only touched the ball once in the left side of the field. That famous dribble against Everton was down the left touchline. Presumably this below is Slot's doing.

This is picked at random, but here is the 3-3 against Liverpool at SJP last season.

Then there’s this. He’s clearly asked to play in a way which limits what made him good for us. Spending £125m on him, with massive wages, to then restrict him in certain ways is not ideal. Neither party benefits. Got to let him drift around and allow him to find the space that he can impact game.

Salah hit the woodwork twice yesterday, mind

As everyone keeps reiterating, he'll probably click at some point if he keeps getting the opportunity.

But at this point I think there's a reasonable chance now that he doesn't get that opportunity because he (rightfully) loses his starting spot to Ekitike.

More no than yes I think. Isak is a far better all-round footballer than Cole was and doesn't need to (and probably isn't being asked to) work on his all-round game to the extent that Cole, particularly without Beardsley had to before it finally clicked at Man United. Isak is much more plug and play if that makes sense, they don't need to change him.

Until last season, Isak also wasn't anywhere near as much the focal point of our goal threat as Cole was. With Cole it also pretty much got to the point where he was a certified flop, a bit of a donkey, even though annoyingly they still won trophies while he wasn't performing. There was the feeling that he was just an out-and-out finisher who had benefitted hugely from Beardsley's genius and us focusing just on his finishing.

With Isak he might have to adapt a bit, but I can't see it being because there are parts of his game he hasn't developed yet. We'll see, but I don't think any of us are expecting his poor form to last to the end of this year, let alone the 2 or so years it took Cole to come good.

It would be incredible if that happened or he had a career-ending injury in the meantime though. Non-football cuntery aside, he's the only player in my 30 odd years of being into football that I've had that level of disgust and animosity towards and who I've ever willingly wanted to see their career end catastrophically. He's a special case.

Only one that comes close to him is Owen for me

Still top for me.

Owen was a cunt, then we went down.

With Isak, we were brilliant for three years, then he was a cunt.

Don't blame anyone for putting Isak number one though.

They clearly told him to act that way.

But Liverpool are a club with principles , morals, all that stuff.

It was a matter of personal responsibilty to deliver him from his oppressors. After all, they had given their word.

Owen was an ass when he left and continued to be an ass after he left, but he was past his prime at that point (that weirdly good attacking midfielder spell under Keegan notwithstanding) and nobody was devastated to see him go.

He was never as important to the club as Isak was, so I don't care about him as much.

But I'm beginning to feel sorry for the lad.

Really? He didn’t feel sorry for us when we couldn’t score a goal at the start of the season. I wish I was as forgiving as you.
