SteV
1 hour ago, TRon said: I got quite a lot of stick on here when I was a bit critical of Shearer at the time. I remember HTT nearly burst a blood vessel at the temerity. My argument was that a lot of his goals came from dead balls, but looking back, I was probably a bit overcritical as our supply back then was pretty woeful. I used to be envious of players who had the pace to really cause teams which wasn't one of Shearer's attributes. Think of Ian Wright or Henry. Isak is obviously less powerful than Shearer, and doesn't offer the same target man attributes, but that skill on the ball and sheer pace are something else. Isak also has two functioning legs, which Shearer did not in the latter part of his time here, maybe even longer. Truth is we only got one season of absolute peak Shearer, and people (understandably) don’t judge him off that. His first season here, in partnership with Ferdinand, he was phenomenal. Felt an almost certainty he would score when we played at home. One of the best thing’s about having Isak now is that we are hopefully going to get the equivalent of Shearer’s 3 seasons at Blackburn and his first season here. NG32
They've inadvertently priced themselves out of the market for him by insisting on such spending restrictions with PSR & FFP. This is the other side of the coin they have flipped for themselves.
Tiresias
Media does like to sell a club to Arsenal. Rice was definitely going to Arsenal for years before it happened. I am sure it's cos Arsenal have enquired a lot and are keen but equally, Liverpool very possibly need to replace Salah's goals in the summer, I'm a bit more scared they can afford a ridiculous fee too. Yes, I always felt that Shearer post-op was never quite the same player after Blackburn, but he was such a good player technically he was still a fantastic target man. Obviously Isak is nowhere near as good in that dept, but he provides so much more threat out wide and on the counter. A better comparison really would be Henry. JP
What a player we've got man. Hindsight now showing we got a bargain at €70m. Let the outside noise happen, its a compliment to the caliber of player we have on our hands. Also, keep the £ strings tight in Jan and we could be looking good for adding 2-3 more first team quality signings come July. Why would he want to leave? Big Geordie
The complete striker - and certainly our best since Shearer. And he's not even in his 'prime' yet. He also seems like a really good lad as well. Regardless of what happens in the future - he is a black and white legend now.

Sibierski
The most enjoyable aspect I still enjoy in his game is his ability to control ball on half turns and playing top passes. Like it can’t be understated how having a striker that does that, immediately elevates the attackers around them because of the runs they can make and passes. Then cherry on top, he’s adding bagful of goals. You see Haaland at Man City who looks so gangly and uncoordinated in how he drops off to receive ball, and Isak is levels above. Also, love how quick his feet are. Gets ball on touchine occasionally and his quick feet play sometimes gets past a defender or wins a throw, which he has no right too considering position he received the ball in. Could see a scenario where we insert a release clause, should we not qualify PIF have got a brand/marketing strategy to help raise the following of Newcastle all over the world. Kids will want Isak shirts, they should be exploiting the market opportunity for all its worth. Kids love superstar players. Isak's commercial value to the club could become much more than just his on-field contributions
madras
His and Gordon's overall play yesterday was quite poor, they both gave the ball away loads and cheaply............but they are in one of those runs of form when they can have those games and still be confident of goals. PENKAAA
So glad Arteta has turned Arsenal into Stoke City 2.0 so Isak looks at them and his stomach turns. That's not his game. Would be much more anxious over the link if Arsenal were playing their old way.
Dan Gleebals
I lumped a few quid on him at 66-1 for PFA player for the year only a week ago. Price is down to 14-1 to 20-1 now. Salar odds on but if he keeps going like this, that might be a nice price. Again, he was on a different level last night and it feels like it is only just the start for him, not sure he really has a ceiling, and Howe will keep pushing him. Geordie Ahmed
He was mint last night but the part I loved the most was the defending he did for that free kick, not many strikers would show that kind of awareness and then the graft to actually make sure he nullified the chance, just class

I thought the opposite of both players. They gave the ball away generally because they were trying off the cuff stuff like dummies and feints to throw the defenders. You do lose the ball more, but when it comes off it destroys defences.
