Probably to stop him leaving in the Summer. Both Liverpool and Arsenal are after a number 9 which might not be the case next year.  So keeping him here next season is key. Which hopefully higher wage and potentially CL will do.

He’s contractually obliged to stay with us, and he seems happy here, so I don’t see that risk of him leaving against our wishes and not on our terms this summer

If a player wants to leave then they tend to get their wish these days. Contract just gives us a stronger position with regards fee. He'll know he might not get the chance again to join Arsenal or Liverpool as come next year you'd assume the Striker positions will have been filled. So for me keeping him here next season is key - and a new contract would go some way to help.

For a fee the size of what it would take, a deal would take months to make. It's certainly not going happen over one summer window.

Besides which, it's entirely up to us to explain the terms to Isak. I've no issue with Isak wanting to reach the very top of world football, but if that's the case, he's not going to find that at Arsenal or Liverpool.

"Alex we respect your ambition and if Real, Barca, Bayern or PSG put the correct bid in for you NEXT summer, we will reluctantly let you leave. We won't sanction any domestic sale."

It's that simple. Again, I've said before, he can go for 20m cheaper if he goes abroad. It's absolutely imperative we don't hand him to a rival.

It’s only going to get worse. People are naive if they think there’s no chance he goes this summer though. I think we’ll get CL though and he’ll sign a new contract.

Don't mind the speculation. If the so called big clubs are drooling over our players it's because they're fucking hellish.

I was idly thinking that a player like Isak will be wanting more trophies, but also that they'd not feel quite the same at a club like PSG, say, where trophies are expected. Maybe that's just with my Newcastle head on, but I'm not sure that for a lot of these players, including him, that they'll experience such an outpouring of joy as finally, finally winning something for us.

The pundits and media are doing their best to push the narrative of Isak leaving Newcastle.

I think it's quite funny that there's alot of Arsenal talk, Why on earth would he want to join Arsenal? Serial bottle jobs.

I think he's a class act, I'd have him at City all day, He would walk into most teams around Europe. He could well sign a new contract at Newcastle with a buy out clause in the contact.

I hope he stays at Newcastle, Howe is building a really good side and it's important to keep the spine of the team intact. Hopefully with City winning court cases against the corrupt league it will allow extra finances for ourselves and Newcastle to spend money.

Unfortunately the Premier League want the so called "Big Boys" at the top table, City's owners and Newcastles owners are very powerful and will turn the tide in the Premier League.

Class moment on his insta story when he passes the Eritrean restaurant on Gallowgate and he zooms in on the staff going mental for him :smitten:

Oh wow ... that's pretty cool you have an Eritrean restaurant in the area.

He must be loving having that available to him, along with the community too.

My boy in college was from Eritrea and that will be a pretty big deal.
