A 32 year old Martin Braithwaite scored 10 goals in La Liga last year and he couldn't make it in the Championship in his prime. Not really a league known for it's difficulty is it? Januzaj was good in Spain ffs.

Fact remains, Hojlund at 21 has 4x the amount of European goals Isak has. That's in a team most people consider to be massively misfiring, with the one of the main criticisms being how the wingers don't get the ball into the striker.

Nobody really talks about Isak's record in Europe for some reason while they're glazing him. But here, he got a hat-trick against Ipswich, give him the Ballon d'Or.

  I like how you write off La Liga as easy, then tell us all about Hojlund's goals against teams like Lincoln Red Imps of Gibraltar.

Porto, Bodo/Glimt and Plzen. The season both were in the Champions League, Isak scored 1 in 5. Hojlund scored 5 in 6, including against Bayern. Hojlund was 19, Isak was 23

Gentle reminder, the comparison wasn't mine. It was simply a talk of potential, and Hojlund is getting written off despite having more goals, the same amount of assists, more trophies and more importantly more Premier League player of the month wins than Isak had at this stage of his career. This while is playing in a massively dysfunctional team where he doesn't get any service while Newcastle are having the time of their lives.

We can revisit in four years and see if Hojlund has progressed enough to bully Ipswich.

You played Copenhagen and Galatasaray on top of that, while we played PSG, Dortmund and Milan.. Funny how the level of the opponent only matters when you want it to.[emoji38]

I know. There's a chance we might not even a win trophy this year. I wonder is the Teresa Herrera still up for grabs?

Not currently no, it's a pre-season trophy.

Hojlund was 19. Worth noting Dortmund and Milan were/are shit as well.

I'm sure Manchester United would reject a straight swap deal between them.

Of course we wouldn't, as we can't see into the future. Two years ago when Martial was outplaying Isak, we wouldn't have swapped Igahlo for him.

That is, once again, hindsight.

I can see into the future. Højlund will never reach the level of Isak. Save it for later. Thanks.

I'm only messing with you anyway Erikse, apart from the bit where I said Hojlund has been better up to the same point in their respective careers.

Why we talking about Hojlund in the Isak thread. Guy is average and will be sacked off to the bench by Amorim in summer if he’s still there.

I don’t think you’re understanding; he’s potentially better than Isak when you apply a series of convoluted caveats!

I think Højlund will become a great striker if Amorim against the odds miraculously turns Man Utd around from top to bottom, or if Højlund somehow can get away from Man Utd asap. He was one of the most promising strikers in the world, and is still young. I was desperate for us to be in for him before Man Utd slapped an obscene amount of money on the table for him.

I don't think its unreasonable to say Højlund was ahead of Isak at the same age at 19. In theory he can become better than Isak who should be (and seems to be) in his prime now at 25, but time is running out fast. Unless something changes dramatically, I don't think its unreasonable to assume Højlund won't reach the level of Isak.

Perfectly put.

Hojlund has a lot of potential and has shown already that he can be good. Under the right circumstances he can become very good. Having said that, when it comes to pure natural talent he will never be even near Isak. That doesn’t mean he can’t become a very effective striker.

There’s been so many years with Isak since he broke through where people have been saying he’s got absolutely ridiculous potential and ability and hasn’t quite been able to show it or do it consistently when he was younger. Expectations have been extremely high because those who really have known what he is capable of have known that his ability is so much more than he has shown in general.

Luckily for us he has started showing and fulfilling that potential in the last couple of years. Otherwise he would have been at Real Madrid  much earlier, guaranteed.
