Only 100 off Shearer’s PL tally after less than 2 1/2 years tells you everything you need to know. Head and shoulders best player we’ve had.

Shearer scored 148 Premier League goals for us from 303 games, if Isak carries on with the same scoring rate, when he reaches 303 games he'll have scored 199 goals.

Fuck sake. That’s him away then.

But aye, hoy any savings on Almiron/Trippier/Wilson to him. He’s going to (rightly) want mega money. If you want to be a mega club you have to pay it.

I appreciate the sentiment that we will want to hang on to our best players, and I have consistently maintained that he's by far the most irreplaceable of our "purples", but realistically if we want to progress as a club we will need to send players eventually, and at peak value preferably. Alexander is only just 25 though, so I hope we indeed manage to extend his contract in such a way that it doesn't completely hamstring us strengthening our squad in other vital positions, and have him to enjoy for a few more years at least, until either we are challenging ourselves or we sell him for an absolute bomb allowing a rebuild that will see us challenge. Either way, we have struck gold with this lad, and here's hoping we'll be able to enjoy his mesmerising talent for many more years to come. Maybe one day he will fire us to titles and European glory.

That second goal was a beaut and massive for him. I feel like he has been in that position loads this season and oddly, his first touch has often let him down. At other times, he just hasn’t been as clinical as he usually is and wasted the chance.

If he was scoring those one on ones like last season. He’d probably have 25-30 goals already

What a player, man. Need to try and keep hold of him at all costs.

I quite agree and actually thought it wouldn’t be such a bad thing to sell someone for £100m+ to allow us to push on, but as this season has went on I’ve came to the conclusion that I’d sooner build the team with ‘cheap’, younger players from at home & abroad whilst keeping the core of the squad together. Having Isak, Bruno, Tonali & Botman as your spine means you always have a chance of competing. I’m not daft enough to think you could stick 7 kids with them, but this is where I hope Mitchell earns his keep.

I know at some point we will probably have to sell somebody, but I’d sooner we explored every other possible means first. As our academy improves we should start making some ££ there, as well as hopefully a few like Minteh.

In my opinion, Isak is the best forward we have ever had - including Shearer. He’s got absolutely everything. I truly believe right this second we have one of the top 2 strikers on the planet. Probably #1. Keeping him also will send a message that we mean serious business.

Hopefully a new 6 year deal is announced in the summer.

prime Callum maybe? ;)

I know you’re joking but prime Callum’s best ever season return is 18 goals with a fair few pens in there to pad it out. Isak is on 19 in January. Callum at his best can’t sniff Isak’s underpants.

Not quite. Despite being taller than Shearer and especially Ferdinand, he's not anywhere near as good in the air as those two were.

They'd smash headers in, going straight through the defender to get the ball. Absolute monsters in the air, Sir Les especially was the best I've seen and Shearer not far behind. Isak's decent, but he's nowhere near world class aerially.

Tbf, heading is a dying art so bit unfair to judge a player on it nowadays.

He looks like he's really enjoying himself man.

Love how we look to hit him early and are finding his runs in behind more and more.

I watch the likes of Man City and Arsenal constantly ignore runs in behind from their forwards for that tedious slow build up and it does my head in.

Think the way we play really suits him and I hope he recognises this, and when that massive contract is set out for him, he signs on the dotted line!

From those who saw enough to comment, as I can only go off auld highlights; is he a better finisher than Cole or nah? Cole's scoring rate for us is an absolute joke, like. Took him 50 games to score 50 goals.  Suppose that answers itself.

He's still not quite as good as Cole in his NUFC heyday but he's getting there. I've thought for a while that he's the closest thing we have seen to Andy Cole and he plays very much like him. The comparison to Henry is absurd IMO.

On another note, the lad desperately needs a better song as that "Mackems Net" dirge is properly cringeworthy. We have got one of the best strikers in the world and we serenade him with a song related to goals scored against lower league fodder. FFS, at the very least he should be getting the "Isak's on fire/defence is terrified" song.

I remember Cole as being quite wasteful actually. But so quick and with good service from an all out attack team so he'd get quite a few chances per match.

Realised today I take it abit for granted how good he is at times. Yes we have good players dotted throughout the first 11 but he is the difference maker.

We're all praising Murphy's form and rightly so. But if he fizzes that pass into the majority of the other strikers in this league and it's probably not a goal.

Love when Isak is in the mood because he not only gets in behind and causes havoc but he also drops deep and links the play so well at times.

Agree a million percent on that.
