It’s been asked a million times, but I’d like to hear @Froggy lay it out. Without really paying enough attention, it feels like they needed a proper reboot, hired the wrong manager, backed him with a decent whack of money but didn’t have a great hit rate with that money. Then you have a new manager coming in at an awkward time with a broken squad, who either tries to get the whole team working towards his own goals (long term view) or is pragmatic to get results (short term). He’s gone for the former, which makes sense given that they’re not realistically going down, but is painful. Ignoring the off-the-field stuff, you’re also in an environment where PSR and the relatively even sharing of cash in the PL has meant that there are a lot of clubs who are close to you in terms of performance in the pitch but also more used to operating within financial constraints and with strong management and squads. For the coup de grace, those clubs have had less football to play and generally fewer injuries and less fatigue as a result.

Operated and managed by arrogance and incompetence over and over, it appears. I'm sure our amphibian friend will explain though.

David Edgar
Manchester fell well behind the elite clubs in terms of non playing personnel and infrastructure towards the end of the SAF era. And have been burning through manager after manager as a result. Ashworth was brought in to properly fix this, but he knew Amorim was a dud and the Ineos suits didn't want to be challenged so binned him. Man U as a club is just a poisoned chalice right now. Regardless of the manager. If anyone is a dud it's Ashworth.

We have been saying since then that they have average and past it players. People like Froggy keep saying they don’t, even defending Bruno when he’s just not consistent enough. I said when SAF left that they would go at least 10 years without winning a title, and they have done. Right now you’d say they probably won’t win another for at least another 10 years. There is nothing to suggest that they are about to turn a corner. Can’t find or keep a decent manager. Can’t find the right players, can’t find someone to do the DOF role correctly with the patience that is required. They will build their new mega stadium to sell tickets to their customers, but aside from that, I don’t think anything about them will improve to a level that they would want to be at. If anyone is a dud it's Ashworth. He didn’t. He wanted a prem based manager, because they likely could hit ground running. And not Amorim, because of more time needed to see if squad would fit without needing massive changes (to accommodate he’s rigid 3-4-3).
