Kepa and the Leeds keeper will never not make me question football scouts. I guess they both have age on their sides to convince me.

the standard of goalkeeping in general seems absolutely awful to me. Just a bunch of rando players

Liverpool - Allisson

Arsenal - Raya

Forest - Sels

Chelsea - Sanchez

Man City - Ederson

Brighton - Verbruggen

Aston Villa - Martinez

Bournemouth - Kepa

Newcastle - Pope

Fulham - Leno

Palace - Henderson

Brentford - Flekken

Tottenham - Vicario

Everton - Pickford

Man U - Onana

West Ham - Areola

Wolves - Sa

Ipswich - Muric

Leicester - Hermansen

Southampton - Ramsdale

Loads of genuinely bad keepers for this level and very few good ones. The one area that the English academy setup has not managed to get right since all the other improvements.

Just realised we're all the way down in 9th currently.

Wow ...

It feels like points total is more important than league position at this point.

Anyone from 10th up who can put a solid run together is in business.

Wonder what Liverpool's plans are with Allison with the big Georgian coming back in the summer

I thought he was at Newcastle too at some point but left when he was still really young.

Might be mistaken though.

Transfermarkt reckons he was but maybe that's wrong.

Contrast to the early to mid 00's when it seemed like everyone bar 2 or 3 had great keepers.

Van Der Sar was at Fulham FFS [emoji38]

When Odegaard is on it. He is great to watch.

I always remember Buffon just randomly saying Andy Carroll of all people was a ‘paintbrush player’ I think it was because he got away with attempted murder on him in a pre-season game.

Anyway, I digress. That description fits Odegaard really well, I think.

Said it before and I'll say it again, the majority of games are shit these days, been getting worse last few years and will only continue.

It's too tactical. Sure you get the odd decent game, Spurs/Bournemouth was alright, as it finished 2 2 it makes it seem better, but it's not like there was a flurry of chances, just the odd good bits of play.

The more the players have become highly tuned athletes it's made the games worse too, the better they are technically it just cancels stuff out.

Both Tavernier brothers were at Newcastle as young lads. Marcus went to Boro and James to Rangers.

James went to Wigan

Sky always dress this up as an exciting clash but fuck me this toilet. 90's early 2000 were the last time I remember games between theses two as being a decent watch. Shit vs Boring.

I think every generation always think their era was better. Whether it’s sports, music, how hard people worked  etc. I think there’s an element of romanticism and selective memory at times.

But I do feel sports science, how well coached and drilled players are, the way tactics have evolved, the in-depth analysis. Often meaning players won’t cross or shoot in certain situations, as the percentages advise against it, as an example.

Along with VAR and the diving/cheating getting out of hand. The amount of money involved and PSR/FFP making it even more of a closed shop. Probably a load more I’ve missed.

Have lead to a less enjoyable game.

That's right, and he paved the way for fellow James right back Reece to join Wigan some years later, which paved the way for young Valentino Francisco to leave Chelsea and find his way to Newcastle, where he will profoundly impact the game next Sunday as we lift our first trophy in a lifetime. It all stems back to Tavernier to Wigan.
