Wolfcastle Posted Wednesday at 22:31 Share Posted Wednesday at 22:31 Seen too many illogical things happen in second legs at this stage - with Real Madrid contributing more than their fair share - to assume the first legs will be the story of the ties.... Except Barcelona - Dortmund, that c*nts done.

They spent years spending huge amounts on big names in an attempt to grow the PSG brand, it worked. They could be a serious problem for the rest of Europe now they have seemingly adjusted their approach.
Wolfcastle Posted Wednesday at 22:46 Share Posted Wednesday at 22:46 Marseilles when being bankrolled by Tapie sorted themselves out in a fraction of the time. They'd been knocked out in the EC/CL semis by a handball, lost a final on penalties and won the thing inside about 6years

I don't think it worked, they've not really come close to winning the CL outside of the COVID year tournament. The whole thing has been a bit of a debacle IMO given the resources available. They've got it right now but a French club with unlimited moneh spending 50 million a pop on Doue, Dembele and Barcola just seems the obvious thing to do really. When I say it worked, I meant specifically in terms of growing the PSG ‘brand’. On the pitch it clearly didn’t (in CL terms anyway, they have been as dominant as you’d expect domestically), but I also don’t think that on the field success was necessarily their primary goal at the time. They we signing those players and spending that money to try and do this years ago - this hasn’t been a considered build. toon25 Posted Wednesday at 23:34 Share Posted Wednesday at 23:34 (edited) Didn't help when they had a player who had cosy dinners with Macron and foreign dignitaries rocking up every week expecting to dictate who he played next to either. Sibierski Posted Thursday at 05:53 Share Posted Thursday at 05:53 PSG are the style of side I want us to be in time. Hard pressing, pace and movement in attack, ball retention in middle. Just rather our more unit sized midfielders because it’s needed in Prem. Instead of this inverted crap with full backs and tippy tappy possession for possession sake. Howe it feels like is taking us more PSG direction than the latter which is good.

brummie Posted Thursday at 08:56 Share Posted Thursday at 08:56 (edited) What a team they are. Sometimes you lose and you just can't complain. TBH we did well to keep it to 2-1 until the death. 2-1 and it's not the end of the world, still alive. 3-1 and it's not dead, but unless we score at least 1 and ideally 2 early goals next week, it's over. I think in that form and that mood last night, they'd have beaten anyone. If we go out, I really hope they win it. buzza Posted Thursday at 09:17 Share Posted Thursday at 09:17 Yep, PSG look a very solid team this season and are playing nice direct and fast football with a team who works hard off the ball. Good to watch!

Obviously 3-1 is worse than 2-1, but either way the chances of going through are tiny. Even the chances of beating PSG in an individual match are incredibly small. I wouldn’t worry about the third goal too much.
Groundhog63 Posted Thursday at 09:30 Share Posted Thursday at 09:30 Fwiw, and for want of a better thread to post this BUT, I am today years old in discovering Real Betis are from Seville Derby game a couple of weeks ago. Also have a boat race between the two.
Chicken Dancer Posted Thursday at 09:30 Share Posted Thursday at 09:30 Aye, Emery seemed to say as much post-match. They were comfortably better than the best team in England over two legs so it was always going to be a tall ask @brummie, but it's not dead yet! I'd guess you would need to score at least 3 to take it to ET though, as I can't see them not scoring. Saying that, they didn't in the home tie vs Liverpool - though not sure how! Was an absolute battering.

Ginola14 Posted Thursday at 11:01 Share Posted Thursday at 11:01 I love watching this new PSG team, they're on another level to every team in the PL, probably only this Barca team have a chance of stopping them winning the CL also mostly forgiven them for last season's robbery in Paris as they did such a great job of softening up Liverpool for us in the final not a fan of them destroying competition in France etc but I do also really like how the atmosphere in Parc de Princes always seems electric
