Just seen that Burnley pen…

Onana ffs

Doesn't even have to come off his line there. The whole situation was under control.

Strange guy man.

The North London derby is one of my favourite fixtures to watch as a neutral, so I'm looking forward to that tomorrow.#

Not sure who I want to win, probably want the NL clubs to finish 1st and 4th, but they both need to keep winning for that to happen, and a draw doesn't do either much good, although probably favours Tottenham. Any dropped points for Arsenal and it's pretty much over, but I'd like Tottenham to go into their match with Chelsea on Thursday with some confidence and belief, so probably just hoping for a good game and for their to be a winner.

I’d bite both your hands off for a draw tbh.

Spuds have 3 games in hand over villa ,wtf

It’s been that kind of season. It‘s absolutely true that not having Europe helps in terms of players recovering from injury, but with all the international breaks and poor luck in the timing of certain games (City and Chelsea in Cup Finals when we’re supposed to play them) we’ve been unable to get any sort of rhythm.

We haven’t had a game for two weeks, and now we’re playing Sun-Thu-Sun. If we can get on a roll now that would be great . Looking forward to next year more than anything now.

Not sure what’s worse, Onana’s ‘attempt’ or the referee needing VAR’s intervention to award the penalty.

The only thing worse was against Wolves where the referee needed VARs intervention who then decided to still not award the penalty.

You better be fucking winning on Thursday.

We’ve won one league game there in the last 34 years.

About fucking time you won then isn’t it?

It was definitely a foul for the Chelsea goal, trouble is these days players are  pushing each other in the back all the time and mostly now it is just being ignored. Managers cannot complain as all players in all teams are at it. If players stopped cheating in all aspects the referees job would be much easier and there would be less incorrect decisions and more consistency

Alty are my local team. Brilliantly run little club that will go places, eventually.

I’ve been reading some articles about Altrincham recently, not the football club, but the town.

I get the impression that 10 years ago it was rather like what North Shields is like. A town where people go to because they have too, rather than going to socialise, simply have a cup of coffee, or doing something leisurely.

Now it’s had a massive amount of regeneration, and it’s a place where people want to live, where they do go just to have a cup of coffee, a meal etc.

They even have a club store for the football team in the town centre.

This is what North Shields (where I live) needs to reinvent itself as, and Altrincham should be the inspiration.

I think Ange said something similar after the Liverpool VAR fuckup. Like, firstly it wasn’t an integrity issue, it was clearly just a bad human error, but secondly if it was an integrity issue then players and managers aren’t exactly on solid ground. People routinely appeal for throw-ins they know aren’t theirs, dive etc etc. It puts massive pressure on refs, and deliberately so.

Cannot think of the Alty without Frank Sidebottom in my head. Legit makes me feel really old.

Just had a look and I was surprised by how much of an obvious foul I thought it was, given the debate it's causing

Just seen it and thought exactly the same. Just shoves him in the back, the fact he flicks his arm out as part of the follow through doesn't help his case either.

Completely different to the Joelinton/Gabriel one because Joe was actively challenging for the ball. If he'd knocked Gabriel out of the way from behind, then headed the ball they'd be more comparable.

This is the thing. I was disgusted with Foden appealing for a free kick when he slipped the other day.

But trends on the pitch reflect trends in society. It seems that the concept of personal honour is almost extinct these days.

I remember my Dad telling me years ago that before 'the war' it wasn't uncommon for a penalty taker just to roll the ball to the keeper if they knew it had been incorrectly awarded.

Stirling Moss said that when he drove for Rob Walker they would agree a deal for the following season and shake hands on it! These days as soon as a contract is signed it seems that one party is looking for a way out of it.

yes whilst going through old reports I came across a penalty where Hughie Gallacher deliberately missed from the spot for that very reason

Yeah, from a perspective that you're the 3/1 to 7/2 underdog, so more likely to lose than not, plus you would remain unbeaten against them this season, and put another nail in their title bid, but you're pretty much guaranteed to finish 5th anyway, and if you are wanting to finish 4th (especially with 5th almost certainly being Europa) then you will need to pull an unexpected result or two out of the bag at some point, and today would be a great place to start.
