Doesn’t have a single weakness and played at a time when it’s harder to be a centre back. I don’t think any of the other contenders played in a team that pressed and played as high as VVD. A very high risk, high reward style of play. If your central backs aren’t up to scratch in terms of pace, concentration and positioning you won’t be winning the champions league, or consistently racking up the points tally Liverpool did.
