so hard to predict but I think there's a good chance ourselves, Chelsea, Forest and Villa all go into the last game on 66 points

assuming that

we beat Chelsea and lose to Arse

Chelsea lose to us and beat MU

Forest lose to Palace, then beat Wham and Leicester

Villa beat Bournemouth and Spurs

above scenario is not ideal as final day could be excruciatingly stressful

would still back us to beat Everton at home which should be enough

Sky would be wanking themselves to death if that's the scenario that unfolds. Would be gripping to be fair, would still make me sick with the wankfest they'll be if Chelsea make it.

What could be an interesting scenario now.

If villa don't win all their remaining games (so they draw one and win 2), and we draw to Chelsea but win against arsenal or everton (latter more likely), Chelsea beat man u, forest beat west ham and Leicester.

We could get cl with 67 points assuming the forest vs Chelsea match doesn't end in a draw, so as long as someone gets beat (with the loser not getting CL). If they got a draw in this scenario they'd both finish above us.

Would be an interesting match, would they both just play for a draw in that scenario knowing if they don't attack they risk the other getting a goal and knocking them out, could get all game theory.

If there is a scenario where drawing gets both of them CL they absolutely will play for the draw like

We just have to focus on beating Chelsea to take any chances of them having a friendly between them away

Keeping Forest, Villa and Chelsea below still will do for this weekend. If we win against Chelsea and Villa drop some points at Bournemouth, I'd be feeling it's done given the final day Forest Chelsea game. Big if!

So if I've done this right

New max points -72! Gd 21

Chel- max points 72 gd 6

Forest max points 72 gd 12

Villa max points 69 gd 6

So 2 wins outta outta 3 and villa can't catch us, doesn't guarantee cl though

If we win our two home games then it guarantees us top 5 unless Villa or Forest end up on the same points as us and manage to overcome the huge difference in goal difference.

If we beat Chelsea, we'll probably do it. But that's the problem - this assumption that we're beating Chelsea?

On a scale of 1 to 10, I'll probably say 5 right now.

What's the scale of them beating us out of interest?

I've got a bad feeling about the Chelsea game, probably means nothing but you do get a general feel for some games.

It feels like they're coming into good form with Lavia back.

I think bringing Botman and Gordon back in is important.

If each were to win all their games (for arguements sake, realise Forest play Chelsea), we require

7 points from 9 to finish above Forest, 5 if they draw with Chelsea, 4 if they lose

5 points from 9 to finish above Villa

9 points out of 9 to finish above Chelsea,  7 if they draw with Forest, 6 if they lose

I’ll probably regret getting involved in this, but I’m guessing also 5…

I’ve come up with a scenario where we beat Chelsea, draw at Arsenal and the rest win all of their games (besides Chelsea obviously), with the table looking like this going into the last game;

Newcastle - 67

Forest - 67

Chelsea - 66

Villa - 66

It’s good for us that Forest and Chelsea are playing each other last game and it means one of them is guaranteed to drop points, they’ll also be both desperate not to lose. Let’s say we beat Everton and Forest beat Chelsea. We finish 4th, ahead of Forest on GD.

6 points from 9 to finish above Chelsea if one of the win is against them (GD dependent)

There’s gonna be a problem getting 9 out 9 if Chelsea win all their games…

That's the thing, if we beat Chelsea were 3 ahead of them and at least 2 above Forest with two games left and one or both of them are guaranteed to drop points in the last game. Also Villa are away to Bournemouth this weekend, they can't catch us if they lose that and we beat Chelsea. This game is huge at the weekend.

Very much my feeling. Feels like a change, a freshness is needed to galvanise for this.

Hopefully people don’t go to the game dressed as dinosaurs and actually get behind the team.

We'd need maximum points either way is the point

Another interesting fact, it we beat Chelsea and Villa get a draw to bournemouth away this weekend, that would mean we just need 1 more point from our last two games to secure cl.

I don't think we will win mind but still here's hoping.
