La Parka
Top 6 will do tbh. We've been reduced to kids and grafters.

r0cafella
And I’m sorry to be clear, all of our players should be instructed to withdraw from the international, no if buts or exceptions.

Yes now you do but not at various points of the season. There were periods this season where we've had 12 senior squad players out. When I suggested injuries were to blame I was laughed at. Our entire defence has been out injured for months ffs. Let's see how you cope.

Decky
A win against Everton in a few weeks would do us the world of good. So far away from home we've won just 1 from 6. Granted they have all been away to teams in good form and today we've had problems with injuries and fatigue, but we don't want people talking about us being bad on the road and it starting to become a thing. You don't get top four without a good few wins away. Edited November 11, 2023 by Decky

Rashford has been playing there though isnt he? And now you say he is not a striker, but he is a lot better striker than Ben Parkinson. And I rather put Rashford as a striker than Paul Dummett or Emil Krafth as centrebacks. You have had a lot in injuries, but your squad is vastly bigger and more expensive. Away Toon
I know that we are incredibly stretched and the squad in thread bare but even when everyone is fit there are questions about what the best position is for lots of our players. Hall doesn't look like a great LB prospect at this point. Is this his preferred position or just an assumption that this is the position we are buying him to grow into? Also seemingly without anyone really knowing their best position is Willock, Gordon and Joelinton. I'm sure Bruno would be a better 8 than a 6 but until Miley is ready for the DM position or we buy someone like Phillips he'll have to play there. That presumes that Miley is a 6? It's all very well having players who are flexible, but IMO Gordon will never be a CF, Big Joe never a top class midfielder, Willock I've no idea at all what he's meant to be. Apart from being invisible most of the time. It's quite possible than Gordon, Willock, Joelinton and Barnes are all at their best in the same position which is very unlikely to be a good thing. We also need to evolve our playing style if we are going to continue having top 4 aspirations every season. This rigid 433, high press, physicality is our identity, is all very well against the poorer teams but doesn't work against the best ones and if it means your players end up dropping like flies there has to be a plan B. We need IMO to evolve into a possession based team but that requires much better technical players than the ones we have. It's much less knackering having the ball than chasing around looking for it. Anyhow onwards and upwards.

Anyhow onwards and upwards. There are elite teams that are high press. But you need 22 players of the right quantity. We have about 18. And they need to be better technically than what we have. Dortmund are literally that side. Liverpool too. With that higher quality technically you have players more capable of controlling a game with the ball. With everyone fit you eventually have Bruno - Tonali - another player of that quality. Then the next 3 coming in as necessary. We have another wide option too and a higher quality 3rd CB and a better LB. we are only 1 or 2 injuries away from not being much of a technical team. With the 8-9 other injuries we lost our counter attacking bite. I do agree that the next 2-3 signings need to be better technically than even Tonali. Andy
I think top 4 is extremely unlikely now, and it shouldn't be the expectation. City, Liverpool and Arsenal will finish top 3, and that fourth spot is going to be too hotly contested for such a thin and depleted squad IMO, especially when you have Spurs playing one game a week. Things may look different in January if we're out of Europe entirely and out of the Carling cup I suppose, but at the moment I'm feeling like we'll come 6th or 7th, which wouldn't be an an awful season all things considered. gbandit
Certainly not going to be gutted if we don’t get top four, we did incredible last season to get there and the squad isn’t in a place where we can do CL football, challenge in the cups and finish top four. However, I do want us to fight for it all season and I hope we’re in with a chance with 8 games to go. I’d be disappointed if we finished below sixth but fifth or sixth would be amazing, with fifth being the dream due to possible CL football
