Definitely got to be looking at winning pretty much all the home games if want to finish top 5. I’m more confident in our away form right now than at home though

Bournemouth's fixtures look easily winnable after next week. If they can sustain the momentum they could kick on, as much as it pains me to say.

They’re down to bare bones at the minute and I’d say the intensity they play at will see them pick up more injuries. They’re still a cracking side but they’re as vulnerable as us to finding it difficult if they get more injuries to key players

On paper definitely, but hard to know what teams will be playing for later on in the season.

Home

Times we've gone behind: 5

Wins from those five: 0

Draws from those five: 2

Away

Times we've gone behind: 8

Wins from those eight: 4

Draws from those eight : 1

Wasn't sure where to put this but it's interesting that we're so much better at recovering on the road than we are at home. Shows just how important it is that we start well at SJP cos teams know they can dig in there.

Guess it goes without saying that we need to address that if we're gonna keep up the CL push.

Same number of points but more wins as 4th place season at this stage of season.

We have 12 wins in league compared to 10 in that season, more defeats but less draws. No reason we can't replicate the 71 points again and finish in Europe.

I really think we can do Man City away, our midfield should beat/match theirs, and defensively they still are not great.

My bigger concern is if we qualify for the cup final, and the players take their foot of the gas slightly with one eye on the final.

Going to need to be into the 70s for champions league places, can we win 10 of those?

I reckon we can.

I do wonder what the Cartel's private conversations are in relation to the growing Newcastle/Villa/Forest/Bournemouth problem. [emoji38]

It's coming from them at too many angles. They can't pilfer all the key players across multiple teams, and for the likes of Bournemouth it's deeper than personnel alone.

Spurs must be close to being 'foegotten' off the next invite [emoji38]

Add to that they've painted themselves into a corner with this PSR rubbish, it's going to be tough for them to hang on to their positions unless the PL relax the rules but then they open the doors to the likes of us with deep pockets so it's a lose/lose for them

As far as Bournemouth goes, the cartel's next move will be to annex Iraola. That's the Bournemouth problem solved at least.

Looking at the current table we just need Forest and Bournemouth to naturally regress and Villa to struggle due to their extra games and that leaves us top 5. It’s only Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea after that.

Do people really think 5th will be as much as 70 points? Surely 60 is closer to the mark.

70 would need another 29 points from 15 matches, unlikely.

Had a look at points for 5th place in the last 10 years, from most recent to 10 years ago it's:

66, 67, 69, 66, 62, 70, 70, 75, 66, 64

So I'd say 66-70 points would be pretty typical.

1.73 PPG gives you the 65 points which is the average for a 5th place finish.

We are currently on 1.78 PPG.

We have some tricky fixtures but never before has it been so unpredictable from about 3rd to 10th in terms of results.

I see no reason why we can't go to City, Arsenal and Liverpool and get points.

For me, it's crucial we beat Chelsea and Forest. If we do that, we are in the driving seat IMO.

If we win 6 out of those 8 at home we’re going to finish top 5.

65 I reckon. 71/72 for 4th

There looks to be a very tight "mini-league" between Forest in 3rd and Villa in 8th. 8 points in it, and potentially if Fulham beat MU tonight you could add them into the mix.

Very tough and very competitive this season. If we are going to finish in top 4/5, it looks like Forest or potentially Chelsea are the ones to drop out. Both of which we play at home which is an advantage. We'd also expect to have the GD advantage against Forest if it comes down to that.

A win on Sat against Fulham is a must, and hopefully against our rivals we can start to get solid wins at home and points away from home.

I reckon we can finish 5th.

I See 4/5 going one of 2 ways.

It either stays really tight with 4-8 being much of a muchness through to the final sprint and the points needed to achieve CL being lower that average as we all take points off each other

Or 2-3 teams pull away as the grind of the season takes hold with it being close between 4-6 and a higher than average points total needed.

I know that's real deep thinking there :coloccini:

I think the second is more likely, potentially even City and us stepping up and everyone else dropping off a bit.

Liverpool

City

Arsenal

Us

Chelsea

Forest (3 game losing streak knocks them off their stride and then an inconsistent run in with more draws than anything else)

Bournemouth

Villa

LC - Us, beating Liverpool in the final

FA Cup - City

Goes without saying really but another season back in the CL would be massive for the club at this point.

Extra pull to bring in/keep players and extra maneuverability in terms of PSR. Its huge. Fear we may well just fall short and were going to need some luck. There for the taking though.
