Anthony Gordon (now playing for FC Barcelona)

Recommended Posts

Thought he was very good yesterday.

Not wanting to be negative 😂 However, couple of times he was overly demonstrative at his teammates inferiority. I don't care who you are, you can fuck off with that shit

What's going on with the penalties? Am I right in thinking Woltermade wants to take them? If so, he should imho

2nd half, clear through, by his own endeavours tbf, and he went for the tight angle shot when Woltermade was a easy pass inside for a tap in.

Other than that....

If we can somehow start Barnes and Gordon both in form, we are cooking. Surely one of them is still fine on the right, and they can rotate in game as well.

I always think this. But Howe never seems to rotate his wingers during the game. Barnes is too good of a finisher to leave out. But he is a bit wasted on the right. I’d rather Gordon plays there.

I think it is just the modern day thing of someone else holding the ball until the last minute. Taking the pressure off the taker. All the mind games and chatter are deflected that way.

Trippier started doing it 2-3 seasons back.

I’d imagine Woltemade would like to take them, mind.

Lots of running and turning and a couple of decent shots. Flatters to deceive, we were up against 10 men for a long time yesterday, I’d have expected our wide men to have created boat loads of space and end product.

His good games always coincide with him running his arse off, thought he was good yesterday

Whether he likes it or not, he's not one of them players who can just saunter round, let the game around him happen, and win the game with a bit of magic, like a Salah, Rashford etc

The yellow card he got walker reminded me of his breakout season with us, I'm sure he won us like 5 penalties by just winning the ball and the defender being half a second late

I realise Walker is well past his sell by date, and obviously his speed has dropped off, but every time there was a foot race between them, Gordon absolutely rinsed him. Don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone do that to him so comprehensively (mind I imagine if I kept watching Burnley, I probably would see it again).

Thoughts on his penalty?

Do we think he ‘sent the keeper the wrong way’? Looked to me like he was always going that side, and if the keeper guesses right he saves it.

Not convinced by him as our main taker tbh, but then I was never convinced with Wilson taking them, and I don’t recall him ever missing for us, so…

Also just a bit concerned that his relationship with the fanbase feels a bit fragile at the moment, and missing a crucial pen could do more harm to him than scoring a crucial one would do good for him.

Much better pen yesterday IMO. Pretty much un-saveable , even if the keeper guesses right and goes early.

It helped that he squared him up and beat him down the outside early on. Seemed full of confidence and happy to go at him at will after that. Basically beat him every time, as well.

Gordon is the penalty taker at the club so he can't just take them if he wants.

Please turn up next week!

Best game in the league this season for sure. He needs to cut out that risky ball when he turns back the middle especially when the full back has made the overlapping run. Makes us more vulnerable to the counter attack.

Gaffer should make that decision, not playing rock, paper scissors among the players tbf.

Was good when he came on against Spurs and good yesterday too, he now needs to make sure his level doesn't drop

What he needs to do is stay off social media and away from a lot of Newcastle fans comments, because they've been scandalous. Looking forward to Gordon making them look silly AGAIN!!!

He has - Howe said something about it earlier in the season, I think before we signed a striker. I don't think Gordon will be taken off them until he misses a couple.

What sort of comments are we talking about here?  If it is abuse, then obviously that's not on.  But if it is to do with perceived workrate and effort and also to do with how poor to average he has been for nearly all of 2025.  Then I don't think they're scandalous at all.  Second highest earner (allegedly) and he still only has a handful of decent games in the last however many months.

He was MOTM against Benfica and again on Saturday.  Along with looking very lively off the bench last week.  So he can obviously still perform to a high level.  He just needs to do it on something approaching a consistent basis now.

You just have to read back through the thread and match threads.

There's a good few that can't wait to tell us all how they knew he was always shit and how he should be sold asap.

Yes, we know he struggles with consistency and the mental side of the game.

The goal will continue to be to get him stronger in those areas as he matures, because when he's on he can be a terror both going forward and defensively.
