It's just the practicality of cutting in on his weaker foot I guess, his shots would be downgraded.

How many goals or assists has he actually got from cutting in compared to Barnes though?

Im crazy but I think he’s good enough to do this from the right.

He certainly seems to have a better left footed shot than Barnes. Contrast the three left footed shots last night (add Murphy’s to this and we really were unlucky), Harvey’s two weak but close efforts from the right and Anthony’s post rattler from the left.

Nah I know, the point was about whether he’d be just as good on the right.

It wouldn’t even be a debate if Gordon hadn’t picked up his game in the last couple of weeks. Otherwise Barnes is clearly the better choice.

I think Gordon in theory has more to his game though, and I do rate Barnes.

seems like he only gets some faint or grudging praise when he plays well now but not much love

guessing that's to do with the two red cards, Liverpool links and general perception of him here before he signed

he was fantastic last night in the second half, took the game by scruff of the next and almost won it for us

would be great if he could add more consistency to his game, certainly wouldn't be selling

It’s a nice problem to have, shame the right side is not at the same level as the left.

The same people raving about him in here will be the same ones wanting him off at half time yesterday.

I think that’s a bit unfair, he really upped his game second half and it’s not something he’s done before. Usually when he has a stinker he doesn’t raise his game.

i think it’s only fair to praise him for a good second half showing when he could well have been hooked at half time

Aye totally agree, I just think we thought he was a scouse rat before he signed and that hasn’t entirely gone away.

If he reaches his full potential I think he could play for anybody. Question has been why he can’t do it consistently at the moment.

But last couple of weeks very encouraging.

I'm not being unfair on him, I wasn't having a go at him. I was having a go at the people who completely changed their opinion of him within 45 minutes.

Some of our fans' opinion change on a game by game basis (or half by half in terms of Anthony Gordon last night).

Lose a game and certain people are talking about finishing 15th in the league, win a game and they're posting in the The Europeometer thread without batting an eyelid. Not just on here but see it first hand as well.

Its really narrow minded and it really narks me.

You are verging on doing a version of the same kind of polarised all or nothing thinking though. Only about fans reactions to him not about him per se. There have been plenty of nuanced comments about his performances, my (admittedly unsolicited) advice would be try not to be too affected by the occasional overgeneralised rants you read.

We’re all entitled to an opinion, and all bothered/frustrated when things aren’t going well. That all includes the hard of thinking.
I think he is a real fighter and ideal for Sunday; if he can keep himself on the pitch.

I understand the point, but Gordon showed something he hasn’t so far in his career and that’s to turn it round when things weren’t going well.

Don’t think he’ll ever do that as an inverted winger/forward. At least 70% of his instincts will be coming inside to shoot. That’s what he’s meant to do.

It's not what he's good at though

As above; he hit a cracker last night.

His weaker foot cross from the right to Isak for the header against Arsenal at SJP was a cracker, one of my favourite goals from last season. As wicked as any of Murphy's crosses.

Probably no coincidence Gordon is playing better with Hall back, and then with Miley in too. If he goes onto the right now, he'll have Bruno and Tino with him. That hasn't always been the case before. When Gordon is on the left and cuts inside, his first look is usually for a vertical pass. I'd imagine this would be more valuable with Wissa making Isak-like runs in behind than with Wolte floating about in a deeper position like Harry Kane.

There’s a bit of a Jacob Murphy thing going on with Gordon now where his form was off for so long people have deciding he’s shit and it doesn’t matter what he does the poor side of his game will be highlighted over anything decent - goal and assist v Leverkusen and the whole match thread was littered with people moaning. Has he been off for a while? Absolutely yes, too long. He’s obviously got the tools to be a top player though. Like Murph he’s gonna have to put a good few months in before the boo boys change their narratives though which I suppose is fair enough.

He’s definitely scoring a pen past Rewfs at the weekend.

Great points. And thinking about it the cross for Miley’s goal was another left footed classic from Gordon. Imagine if we can get him cutting in and firing left footed  shots  in from the right wing with Barnes’s current form on left, and Murphy and Elanga as options, Wolt or Wiss (any W will do…) in the middle. Looks exceptionally strong in theory.

The 1-0 win in the league? That was his right foot.

I still wish Gordon and Barnes could interchange a bit. Wouldn’t be as much of an issue with who plays what side then.

I know there will be a reason for it. Passing patterns, defensive duties, partnerships, consistency etc. I don’t think many teams do it now. Pep a few times, from memory. I’m sure it was much more common when I was growing up?
