Anthony Gordon (now playing for FC Barcelona)

Recommended Posts

Btw I think Gordon is one of the players who only work hard occasionally. That being said, I think he has the right attitude and played very well in general in the last 2 months, which is good for us regardless of the reason. I suspect he only worked hard because he is worried about his place in England NT though, if he continued to play like what he did in the earlier part of this season, he may not even make it to the NT.

Been our best player since going up top. We’ll just have to accept the inconsistent finishing for the rest of the season, but at least he gets chances and shots which is automatically better than any of the other options.

Just imagine where we would be if we had 2 competent 9s

their league position is false based on actual performances, they’re lucky not to be in a relegation scrap. They’re absolutely shit.

Other than that we’ve had extended cup runs and the CL to contend with. Basing it on two results and league position is simplistic.

Maybe, I still think it's a pretty stupid thing to do to come out and say we should beat them because we're better than them given the evidence to the contrary.

You can definitely argue with league position when the season isn’t over.

And you can still argue with it at the end too, cos it’s not the only factor in who’s ‘better’.

But even if you don’t agree with latter, you def can’t use an unfinished table to say that one team with 1 more point is objectively better than the other. It’s a fair opinion from AG.

Considering how much he gets paid he should concentrate on trying to improve his game which is full of technical faults. Leaning backwards while trying to put it in the top corner rarely works. Hes an idiot and shows no sign of improvement.

I think you can but each to their own I guess.

Can see it in his celebration what the goal meant to him and for the team. He wanted to beat the cunts very much and tried his best, albeit he could have made different, better decisions. One of a few who who deserve any mention from Sunday.

Don't understand why he gets so much grief on here. He's playing out of position due to our piss poor summer transfer window and has scored 17(?) goals this season.

He's one of those players where people will only appreciate his value to us once he's gone. Same with Barnes.

He has to be retained at all costs really. We already have a massive job adding enough real quality to our team.

I think he gets grief because of the way he looks, because he's a Scouser and because he's either brilliant or meh. Combine all of those and you people start to think he's not trying on purpose and he's only in it for himself

Definitely some truth to this. Also because he has the persona of self improvement, philosophy and all that.

Some revisioism going on tbh. He got stick because he didn't show up for a year and when he did jogged around or got sent off.

It's not revisionism, I was saying it at the time. Maybe wrong but not hindsight

The least of our attacking outlet concerns tbh, he's the only one of our 7 or so forward options who has the chance of making it to the top level. He's not perfect but he's by far the best option we have and the only one who top clubs would even consider buying.

Mad.

  • Eddie Howe rates him.
  • Thomas Tuchel rates him.
  • Liverpool are linked with him again.
  • NUFC fans think he’s rubbish.

I know whose opinion I’m trusting more.

The player who was the fans player of the season in 23/24 didn't suddenly start getting criticism because of how he looks, because he's a scouser, or because he's into philosophy. He got it because he played poorly and was perceived to be not giving his all, and it was imo allowed to slide for over a year, before anyone really said anything about it. If anything he got way more rope than possibly any Newcastle player I can think of.

That said, I do think that the increase in criticism of him happened in sync with him actually improving drastically. It was very weird.

Out of all of our problems this season, Gordon is very close to the bottom. Perhaps his cringey pseudo-intellectual, high performance podcastesque media pieces rub people up the wrong way and are weaponised against him when he drops a stinker.

He ones of our best 5 players. I'd rate our top 5 like this

1. Bruno G
2. Hall
3. Gordon

4. Tonali

5. Thiaw

Other than big Joe and Miley. The rest can leave.

GK

Livramento

Hall

CB

CB

Tonali

Bruno

CM

Gordon

RW

CF

They're the 5 players I see as top 4 players at the moment. Botman if he can stay fit joins them.

Thiaw, Barnes, Ramsey, Joelinton, Miley are all players that when you have 4 or 5 of them on form can support the main cast well.

Up until this season I was always in the camp that we could get £70-80m for him and sign a player for £50m who could do the same job with Barnes as cover. I think we now leave that LW position alone, it's the strongest area we have in terms of two players for a position.

I could easily see Gordon doing a Milner beyond us. I don't mean playing well into his 80s as a midfielder but that he'll kick on a level.

Like any player, if a club he wants to go to makes a big offer, he’ll be off. If Arsenal or Liverpool do decide they want him and we try to cling onto him it will likely only damage us. He’s already on big money by our standards so a new contract isn’t likely (or deserved).
