Anthony Gordon (now playing for FC Barcelona)

Just a deal that suits all parties innit.

We get a good fee for a player who wants out early on in the window, without selling to a league rival.

Gordon gets a move to one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Barca get a good player who'll probably do very well in La Liga.

This is the kind of deal we need to shoot for going forward.

Great fee for a player who we can improve upon and done nice and early, no Isak saga this time.

Wish him the best, he's been a decent signing and seems to have done a lot behind the scenes.

Everyone is a stepping stone to Barca and Madrid, I just don’t want to be a stepping stone to Man U and Liverpool.

Absolutely no negative emotion from me whatsoever about this here transfer.

All good in the neighbourhood. For him, for us, for Barca.

Wish the global elite teams would swoop in and give us a big profit on a few more of our shite and frustrating underperforming players.

How much potential did people think he had?

He hasn't cured cancer, the lazy scouse cunt

I think that's what the majority of the forum wants at this point and there's nothing wrong with it. In theory we can attract a higher calibre of young players than the likes of Brighton/Bournemouth and, realistically, we may never get to a point where we're not going to be a stepping stone to Barcelona, RM, Bayern Munich, or PSG. A stepping stone to other PL clubs is harder to take, but will occasionally be necessary.

Poor players (relative to the level they're playing at) have played for both England and Barcelona. Not saying Gordon is poor, but I think both England and Barcelona are overrating him.

He’s read so many pop science books he manifested it.

I hope we are.

Absolutely nothing wrong in my book with being a club that makes decent money on players by being a stepping stone to Barcelona, or an equivalent elite club. It’s just annoying when it’s to an English semi-rival rather than a Spanish or German giant.

It’s an excellent model for a club of our stature as we continue to make our way up the heavily greased pole.

It’s when we’re stepping stones to the Champo, that’s when I’ll be worrying.

I’d be astonished if anyone watched him at Everton, and was confident in saying he achieve a higher level of performance than he already has.

Didn't necessarily mean poor players playing for both england and barca at the same time, just poor players in general.

Making sure he got himself on penalties was a genius move.

Good outcome for everyone, really.

Technically speaking, he’s never a Barcelona player in a million years. He’s no slouch but he’s nowhere near the level of their lads in terms of ball control, striking, passing, dribbling. But I am chuffed he’s gone.

Liverpool sold to Bayern Munich just last season, and funded a big part of their recent success by selling Coutinho to Barcelona.

Being good sellers is imperative for pretty much all clubs bar a very select few. If we want to reach that point, then yes being able to sell ourselves as a stepping stone has to be part of the plan.

Mixed feeling about this transfer.

I always think Gordon is one of the players who don't give 100% every game. So it's good to let him go and recoup some money.

On the other hand, when the likes of Garnacho or Elanga cost something like £45-55m these days, £69m for Gordon doesn't seem that much. I know Gordon isn't going to be a Balon d'Or contender but he's only 25 and a regular in the England NT so you have a feeling that he should really worth more. Indeed, we bought Gordon for £45m three years ago and if you factor in inflation, we only made a very small profit trading him.

After all Negrelona/Uefalona is also the non-English club that I despise the most so I don't want them to buy anyone cheap.

Superior coaching in an inferior league as he enters his prime years may very well change that.
