Anthony Gordon (now playing for FC Barcelona)

Recommended Posts

Happy enough with this, but I do feel like we could have squeezed a few more millions out of it. Seems like we've just accepted their first offer, which is a bit weird?

How many other England Internationals in their peak ages with so much left on their contracts would have gone for as little as this?

I know Anderson is a couple of years younger, but he will most likely cost £10-20m more this summer for example.

So to sum up the thread:

Anthony Gordon is an overrated little Scouse twat but we got absolutely fleeced by getting 70 million for him.

Makes sense.

And the thread title is wrong because we're actually getting £69m minus £5m sell on fee minus £45m originally paid to Everton minus the cost of a replacement, so ultimately we are at negative £15m.

Of all the so called purples, this is the one I’m very much the least bothered about.  Great on his day, but far too inconsistent, 1 good game in every 3 or 4 (if we were lucky) is not good enough, and his passing is utterly woeful.

Not sure about anyone else, but I’m quite excited by this, this is where we kick start our recruitment and bring players in very quickly, hopefully.

Would be interesting to know what the add ons are. Doubt we’ll find out anytime soon, but it would add a bit of spice to know we get another X million if Barca win next season’s CL and they’re in the final against Arsenal/Liverpool/Man Utd.

Think he’ll do very well at Barca but definitely has flaws to his game. Apart from his penalties, I don’t really see any area of his game that has dramatically improved in his time here.

I don't think £69.3m, inclusive of add-ons, is enough tbh, especially not with Everton's sell-on clause. A 25yr old England international, with CL experience should have been another £10m on top of that, especially if there was other interest. Not really sure on why we sold prior to the World Cup when his value could potentially increase even further if he has a decent tournament. The only redeeming point is that it means it won't drag on and any negativity from him will be negated.

Football has gone mad.

I mean if makes sense that he'd make around that signing for Barca in his prime for this amount of money.

He only recently went a year without a goal or assist in open play. A year in which we played like 100 games. Alongside being a general chud merchant, injury faker and tod warrior. How he has managed this I'm not sure

He could also get injured in said tournament and wipe out his value completely.

Gordon is by far the biggest winner here like

Both us and Barcelona got good arguments for why we could have done better from this deal, but Gordon getting a move to arguably the biggest club in the world is wild after his last couple of seasons

It doesn't really get bigger than Barcelona. So if he doesn't develop consistency there, then all his chat about being elite and wanting to go to the top is waffle. If the sale happens, then he has reached his goal and now he has to go do it.

I won't keep an eye on his career as I'm very indifferent to him. Don't care about him succeeding or failing.

Wish I share your optimism, however I may never recover from last summer regarding transfers.
