England’s Anthony Gordon

Am I the only one who liked him from the word go? Not that I thought his performances were exceptional but I thought he came across well (impassioned Brentford flounce aside) and had some canny games - Man Utd (h) springing immediately to mind.

There was a good complilation of his cameos posted on here when he was apparently 'shite'. He looked good back then, he was just clearly unfit and not up to speed with our gameplan.

The Brentford (?) game where he was tactically subbed at half time remains one of the most absurd mass critisisms of a player I've seen.

I think Longstaff’s momentum is as much to do with the follow through. If not more so. Longstaff was travelling faster than the SU player was.
Thought it was a good tackle personally. Got the ball. Studs not up, etc.

Getting the ball has nowt to do with it being a foul or not.  It never has.

I don't think this reframing that everyone hated him for being a diving rat faced knacker is 100% on point. He had displayed some weakness with positional awareness and discipline as well as shooing technique, aside his histrionics. Now two of those Eddie is turning around, and he seems to be less of a whingy cunt for us too, but he was very much a rough diamond when we splashed on him. He's class now though, long may it continue.

As an aside, Everton youth products are usually dump after leaving Merseyside; Cadamarteri, Jeffers, Vaughan, Baxter, Rodwell...et al. Always wary of their academy.

I guess Rooney is the exception, but to  be fair I reckon he would have thrived in any academy.

I think if Longstaff is stationary instead of running at him there probably is barely any contact. Negligible at the most.
Anyway, foul and card given and we scored from it.
We’d have won anyway.

Guy is useless. He has just turned 22. If you're not the finished article by 22 it's over for you. Everybody knows this.

He's had 340 entire minutes as well with his new team. Time to cut losses.

 this is prime time @Froggy

His first 6 months were fine, totally normal for a young player moving clubs. We just hated him because he was a little scouse rat who people didn’t like.

Speak for yourself, I thought he was Ben Arfa after his first pass (and then didn’t).

People who slagged him to high heaven will reframe it as ‘all of us’.

I thought he had a decent amount of positive moments last season, tbh, but they largely seemed to come when he was a sub rather than a starter. Obviously not much output (although he did provide a few good chances) but some intelligent touches, movement, and build up play.

The main difference this season is his drive to go forward and run at the opposition. He was far less confident in this side of his game last season, cutting in & playing simpler passes extremely often apart from one half against Southampton. I think his dribbling stats were generally pretty poor.

I haven’t seen much of him so don’t feel qualified to say if he’s worth the money or not, but I would suspect that coming from a team which has been so shit for so long, at which you’ve spent your whole career, it is going to take a while to “wash that off” and be in a position to start delivering your best. Imagine what playing for Everton does to your confidence.

I’d suggest giving him a pass for this season and seeing what he does next year.

Of course, that’s easy for me to say with it not being my club.

Brummie once again proving he's one of the best posters on this place
