I'm wondering now if maybe his attitude to not wanting fitness staff getting involved in his routines had any part to play? Possibly fidnt go down too well if it was forced upon him and he didn't align with the England view?

Unless he has just implemented his fitness routine last season, I would think the England set up would already have been aware of this from him playing with the U21s.

I had forgotten what it’s like having England players.

If they play you’re worried they are injured or they are going to be mentally impacted by losing before the season starts.

if they don’t play you’re worried they are going to be mentally impacted by not being picked or injured falling off their bike.

i can understand why Ferguson was always so annoyed.

I'm 100% behind the favourites tag and his post match honesty didn't fit into the seige mentality, that wouldn't have gone down well at all. His brief cameo was nothing but positive and should have earned him more minutes along side Palmer but Palmer didn't go against the grain in public.

Maybe he just already had too much of a problem thinking about how to accommodate Foden and Bellingham, he couldn’t fathom Gordon as well.

Probably this and any brain cells he had available to navigate that thought process were frazzled when he tried the TAA thing

It's from his Overlap interview. He has a pretty unconventional approach to fitness e.g. almost zero strength training and emphasizing his own stretching methods, which Howe and co. support his decision on. But maybe more conservative managers would not be impressed by.

apparently lineker had a couple of words with him after the game, to gee him up.

Where's this from?

Really dont mind southgate threw him in the doghouse since I'm not an England fan. Might inspire an AG revenge tour from now until the WC, and he could use the extra rest banked up before he starts Eddie-ball again for the next 10 months

Just hope he doesn't get a warped sense of being treat differently because he's in black and white and not from a 'bigger' club and get a chip on his shoulder. I mean he'd have to be a bit of a nut to think like that, but I would, cause I'm heavily spectrum-based

I don’t think that’s the case - Trippier played 6 games and started all of them. You can point to TAA, Grealish, Ben White as examples as to where your club colours don’t matter.

Must be disappointed, not because he simply didn't play but because he (and all of us) know he could've made a huge difference in the games.

Hopefully uses it as ammo for next season and becomes a regular feature in time for the World Cup '26. He'll be 25 so great timing. Whether he's with us or not!

I think getting ignored by England will work in our favour tbh, if he'd played and been outstanding then his agent would have been hawking him around in order to get a massive pay rise. I think he'll get a new contract here anyway but he's earned that.

Saw him as the first player off the plane after Southgate. A good 5 minutes before the rest of the players came off. The rest came down in a group. He came off alone with just some backroom staff.

Probably looking too much into it but unless he was seated near the exit, a bit weird he got off it early and separated from the rest. Trippier got down a proper 10 minutes after him and after the group, in sunglasses.

Luke was the main man pushing the "Gordon's head has been turned" narrative, he's backed his bag and is waiting for Slot to call him. Now he's criticising other outlets for doing exactly the same.

Has to be a bit of tongue in cheek on his part, it's impossible to lack that much self awareness.
