Nearly caught me off guard this morning, what a joke article.

I’ve been using Google News as a feed to get anything new on the transfer wires. Turns out to be 50% Liverpool Echo Gordon articles, 40% Paisley Gates Gordon articles and 10% stuff actually meaningful to NUFC.

I use Shadow Puppets and Ornstein (in that order)

Vague memory from the time or maybe the Gary Neville \ Whitley Bay interview that Gordon insisted on the short contract as he backs himself so much, he’ll earn bigger and better each renewal.

Could be misremembering but anything else would seem very strange for normal business never mind PSR.

I can't remember his contract ever being discussed on it.

BBC now saying he only has 2 years left on his contract.

Why would we sign a young player for that much money and give them a 3.5 year contract.

My thoughts as well. He will get offered a new contract irrespective once our transfers are sorted IMO.

Fair enough, vague memory niggling away that he had it as a red line in the deal. Might be completely wrong though 🤷‍♂️

Obviously none of us know, but the idea Gordon could have dictated signing a 3.5 year contract when he was desperate to get away from Everton and Chelsea’s interest appeared to have cooled, seems unlikely. For what it’s worth, I’m sure at the very worst there’s a year option our side. It all feels like one source being quoted, which coincidentally helps to stir the pot.

Has there ever been any indication that he wasn't happy here ?

No - and I wouldn’t hold it against the lad if he’d go to Liverpool given a chance to do so.  It wouldn’t mean that he is unhappy with his lot at NUFC.

A lot more talk about Luis Diaz going to Barca this morning - I really could do with an announcement that Gordon has signed a new deal with us!

Can’t see the former happening without them making major sales. They get continually linked with players but can’t register them without some more creative accounting. Haven’t seen them confirm Olmo or Williams yet.

I have a bad feeling about this. I don’t think he leaves this window but I think he may be the one we sell to comply with PSR before next June.

Plausible. Things like how we do and, individually, how Barnes does will help determine it.
