England’s Anthony Gordon

Enjoy the bench, Gordon.

Not sure the spiteful tone is needed like. He’s a top lad and a great player. It’s no good having a good squad if we’re going to be weird about it.

Gordon has had a few spells of being pretty poor this season so he only has himself to blame that Barnes took his chance and made the position his own.

I can't see both Barnes and Gordon hanging around beyond next season being rotated all the time, both far too good not to be starting every game for their club.

A title challenging UCL club (hopefully us) I’m sure they’ll be OK with that!

I don't think this is possible / good with a team that is challenging in the CL. City & Liverpool only have 1 attacker that starts every game and neither has to do the same amount of work off the ball that Gordon/Barnes has to do. That's Isak in our case, not Gordon.

Arsenal are the exception who seem to run their attackers into the ground and they've picked up loads of injuries this season.

I also don't think Gordon is good enough to start 50 games for another team in the CL.

I think it depends on several factors, one being his place in the England team. If he loses that he'll want to be starting week in week out somewhere. I've full faith on Gordon coming back in though, if he finds his form again he's one of our best players.

Where does he go and start 50 games a season?

Gordon is a switched on guy, he’ll know Barnes is in form and he’ll have to work for his spot back in side, and also he needs to add the finishing that Barnes is great at.

I can see Gordon working on his finishing religiously in the summer and be a better player for Barnes form.

Barnes will be 28 next season and playing UCL football. He’ll be at stage where he’s happy to be a squad player that’s challenging for the major honours or he steps down a level to be a regular.

In next 24 months we will be the side that challenges the ‘sky 6’, then Villa will want to be there too. Can you see any of those clubs signing Barnes for £40m+, tying him down at 29 on a 5 year deal as a first name on sheet?

Nope.

So would be a step down required if he wanted to be a guaranteed starter.

Not sure he deserves to start ahead of Murphy or Barnes. But it is annoying that he seems ineffective/uninterested on the right. Albeit based on a small sample

size.

As if he could do a job that side. We’d have an even deadlier set of wingers/wide forwards.

It would also mean we could stop shoehorning Barnes in on the right when Gordon comes on.
