He'd do himself a few favours by not falling to the ground every second and making good decisions in the final third.
Menace Posted Sunday at 17:45 Share Posted Sunday at 17:45 I absolutely believe the head turning rumours - he's been dodgy for quite a while for me personally. Barnes is completely ineffective on the right - I suspect he's going to be pissed off sooner or later. Dropping Barnes to RW when him and Tino had a fantastic understanding was really poor. Weezertron Posted Sunday at 17:46 Share Posted Sunday at 17:46 I get the feeling he thinks he's better than he is. Maybe as far as thinking he is better than Newcastle.

toontownman Posted Sunday at 17:48 Share Posted Sunday at 17:48 Not been the same since Southgate/England benching. Not sure what's going on with him. Surprised he was kept on.

Main responsiblity lies with Howe having the guts to bench him if he isn't showing any improvements in traning up until the Everton game. Would love to see the direct, hard working goal threat of last season next sunday. This version that just half commits to pressing, doesn't track back, misses easy passes, can't control the ball, doubles down on dives by staying down feigning injury rather than getting up and chasing back if he doesn't get the free kick he was after doesn't offer us anything. Slim Posted Sunday at 17:52 Share Posted Sunday at 17:52 No worse than Barnes but seems to be the Scape goat now. Few twitter posts saying he's been shit all season and we should sold him. Njoy
nemtizz Posted Sunday at 17:53 Share Posted Sunday at 17:53 Wouldn't play him against Everton even if he was in good form tbh

I don't think folk are saying he's shite, just that he needs to get his head out his arse and show the same attitude as previous seasons (and not the attitude he had when he first arrived - which he is now displaying again). Playing shite and being shite are two different things. He does look like he's half arsing it at the moment, hoping it's just a fitness thing. Erikse Posted Sunday at 17:55 Share Posted Sunday at 17:55 Lots of players transform from one season to another, and then back again the season after. No point in selling really, can't see a big offer coming in from a top club now anyways.
pubteam Posted Sunday at 17:56 Share Posted Sunday at 17:56 His defensive work rate has dropped off massively, gives the ball away a lot and looks lacking in confidence. It seems to be a mental thing if you ask me.
The College Dropout Posted Sunday at 17:57 Share Posted Sunday at 17:57 Gordon is a good player. But I don’t think he’s an elite one. Doesn’t have enough technically in his locker. His best games require a level of mental focus he doesn’t seem capable of sustaining

Gordon has demonstrated that when he is at his best he is tenacious and full of running both forward and back and he himself even said his attitude was that if he runs more than everyone else and harder than everyone else he will likely outperform them. He's stopped doing that. So by definition (to me) that says his attitude is off (or he's being told to run less - which seems unlikely). Nucasol Posted Sunday at 17:58 Share Posted Sunday at 17:58 24 minutes ago, Heron said: I don't think it is entirely knee jerk reaction. He was very lucky we won the cup cause his stupid actions could have cost us and all season he has shown petulance (which he has also done previously). I find it bizarre that people talk of Murphy having a 'purple patch' still despite showing exemplary behaviour and consistent performances all season and then we cannot talk about someone showing poor attitude and whom is out of form (despite being considered a more talented player). Agree @Heron. For me he could be a PSR sacrificial lamb if someone is willing to give us a chunky sum for him. I think he’s a good player but that’s really not coming through this season. And his body language often looks frustrated which delays him actually trying to play football. He did really well for like 10 minutes after the goal. He knew it was him. Jesse Pinkman Posted Sunday at 18:03 Share Posted Sunday at 18:03 If we have to shift a “purple” for PSR reasons Gordon has to be the first we sacrifice. Whilst there is a good player in there, I am not sure if he has potential to be an elite player. Barnes already shown he has better ball striking and decision making than Gordon. The College Dropout Posted Sunday at 18:05 Share Posted Sunday at 18:05 Ppl here always want to sell players on the low. You sell players when they are performing at a high level so you get the best fee.
Dr Jinx Posted Sunday at 18:05 Share Posted Sunday at 18:05 Very surprised he was kept on. Absolutely shocking going forward and even worse at the hard work bit. I suspect his peak value would have been last summer. But he’d still get close to 100m if we sold. Just not sure who’d bite based on this season. Mattoon Posted Sunday at 18:07 Share Posted Sunday at 18:07 I echo the statements, I don't think it's any kind of knee jerk, I think it's just the attitude shown today has brought a lot of what has been bubbling under, up to the surface. There's no denying his talent, we've seen it last season, however bar a patch of 9 games mid-season he's not been great at all this season. He looks half-hearted at times, sloppy and off the pace and his diving has become much worse, compounded by his petulant rolling around on the floor when the whistle doesn't go and the ball is still live, get up!! One of our best players by far when in form, he needs to work hard to get back to where he was and he needs to bring the arrogance and petulance down a peg and realise that right now Barnes is the better option.
